The Most Expensive Fish For Your Home

People Visit The Georgia Aquarium

Everyone has owned some type of fish in their life, whether it’s a goldfish or a full blown aquarium. Although there are plenty of standard fish options at the local pet stores, there are just as many more exotic fish out there to fill an aquarium with. These fish are rare to the point that they are hard to track down for purchase, but if owners can manage to do that, they will have one astonishing aquarium for everyone to gaze at. Here are the most expensive fish for your home.

5. Golden Basslet – $8,000

The Golden Basslet is a fish that technically comes from the Grouper family although it is one of the smallest in that category. The Basslet can be found in both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans but is shy and tends to hide as much as possible which is why they are so valuable to have in your home tank. The fish is magnificent looking with it’s golden glowing color and tiny spots of green or yellow that blend into the tail fin, but if you are lucky enough to find and then purchase one of these, it’s likely the Golden Basslet will find a hidden nook to stay in.

4. Bladefin Basslet – $10,000

This Basslet differs from the Golden version due to it’s slim blade-like fin on top of the fish’s body. The Bladefin Basslet is found in the Caribbean and can be a number of different colors, offering a nice variety for all who are interested. The reason this fish is so rare and has such a high price tag is because they are a deep water reef fish but only grow to be around 1.5 inches long, so catching one almost happens by pure luck or determination.

3. Peppermint Angelfish – $30,000

The Peppermint Angelfish is a beauty with it’s orange and yellow coloring accented by thin white stripes, but is very rare because of how limited it is. Only one of these fish was available to be viewed by the public back in 2012 because it was found and captured on a research expedition organized by the Smithsonian Institute. The Peppermint Angelfish is another deep water creature that is hard to reach, but is always in demand for the personal collection of wealthy aquarium owners.

2. Freshwater Polka Dot Stingray – $100,000

This stingray is very rare due to it’s distinct U-shape (rather than being round) which is caused by a genetic mutation. Another thing that makes the Freshwater Polka Dot Stingray so unique is that with it’s altered shape, it cannot hunt or consume its normal shellfish diet and actually tends to die off relatively quickly in the wild, causing it to be all the more valuable.

1. Platinum Arowana – $400,000

The Platinum Arowana is another fish that gets it’s rare coloring from a genetic mutation causing it to be completely white, or , “platinum”. Aside from this fish’s amazing physical look, it can live for up to 50 years and is also one of the smartest fish around to the point where they will begin to recognize humans and even can be trained to eat right out of the owner’s hand.
