The Most Expensive Baseball Stadiums in MLB

Billy Joel's "The Last Play At Shea" Premieres At Citi Field

Baseball is a sport that is always bringing fans out to the seats no matter what. While it’s definitely nice to go watch while your favorite team is winning games, nothing beats heading down to the ballpark on a nice summer afternoon or night and enjoying a classic American ballgame while the sun sets. Baseball stadiums aren’t cheap to build, but always have plenty of attractions for fans to occupy themselves with before, after, or even in between innings during a game; however, what makes them so expensive? Here are the most expensive baseball stadiums in the MLB.

5. Marlins Park (Miami Marlins) – $550 Million

Marlins Park was built and opened back in 2012 when the former Florida Marlins made their move to Miami with a refreshed look. team, and stadium. Marlins Park seats just under 37,000 people and has a retractable roof that, when closed, will keep the entire stadium nicely air conditioned. Although this is the third smallest ball park around, there is plenty of artwork and attraction to go watch a game, and the stadium even has an aquarium built into the walls behind home plate!

4. Rogers Centre (Toronto Blue Jays) – $570 Million

The Rogers Centre was formerly known as the Skydome before it was purchased by Rogers Communications back in 2005. The stadium holds just under 50,000 people and also features a retractable roof, which is still a prime feature to have considering only six stadiums out of the entire MLB have them. The Rogers Centre is also the home field used by Canadian football team the Toronto Argonauts and gets used for plenty of other sports and entertainment events going on. The stadium features updated electronics with clear video boards and even accepts the U.S. Dollar in all of the stadium venues to cater American fans that are catching a game.

3. Nationals Park (Washington Nationals) – $693 Million

Since moving down from Montreal, the Washington Nationals helped in refreshing the franchise location move with a new stadium called Nationals Park. The stadium was $693 million to build and can hold a maximum capacity of just over 41,000. The stadium has limited parking due to its location in the D.C. area but offers plenty of nice suites and restaurants for the fans to come and enjoy.

2. Citi Field (New York Mets) – $900 Million

Citi Field opened up in 2009 costing $900 million and is home to the New York Mets. The stadium seats about 42,000 people and can be found in Queens, NY, pretty much exactly where the former Shea Stadium was located. Citi Field draws some architectural design from a bunch of different MLB ballparks but is a beautiful place to go watch a game.

1. Yankee Stadium (New York Yankees) – 1.5 Billion

The New Yankee Stadium opened back in 2009 for a huge $1.5 billion. It can seat slightly under 50,000 people and is used for a ton of concerts and is now the home field for the new New York City FC. Yankee Stadium is one of the many attractions in New York City, so there are always events being hosted and booked there. The stadium screams luxury offering some of the nicest suites and club boxes to those who can afford them.
