For most music listeners, they do not really care that their music isn’t being played back at the highest quality possible, as they are sufficient listening to music via their cell phones coupled with $20 dollar headphones. However, there are many people that do care about the quality of music, and there are very few music players that cater to people wanting a “luxury” music device. Well Sony hopes to change that, as they have recently introduced the ZX2 at CES 2015.

Back in the day the Sony Walkman series were extremely popular, and while they are still around, they really haven’t been as popular as cellphone took over. Sony hopes this new device will gain them some traction, and it definitely is an impressive piece of technology. The ZX2 is being marketed at those seeking a high-end, high-quality music player. Many people today stream their music, which is offered at a much lower quality compared to other audio formats that are out there.

The device is made from a solid carved aluminum case. It runs Android 4.2 and has built in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Potential users have a few ways to listen to music on the device. Sony promises to deliver the latest “live streaming technology” which will stream music at higher qualities compared to the competition. The device also has 128GB built in memory and a micro SD slot for expandable storage. So you can load up your own music files onto the device an it supports file formats such as MP3, AAV, WMA, FLAC, AIFF, WAV, ALAC, and DSD. The ZX2’s battery offers 60 hours of playback of MP3, or 33 hours of play pack in the high-resolution mode.

The device is certainly not cheap as it is expected to cost around $1,100 dollars making this music player more expensive that many computers. It should be available sometime in the spring of 2015 for those looking to get back on-board with a Sony Walkman. It will be interesting to see how this devices sells, as most people use their cellphones for music. Still if you want a player that can provide the best sound quality on the go, this device is for you.
