The Pebble Is The Smartwatch That Started It All

The Pebble Technology Corporation is a smart watch company that originally started out as a Kickstarter project, and quickly grew to be a world recorded holder for one to the best campaigns that generated over $10 million dollars. The company is attributed to introducing and mass producing one of the first smart watches. While there were other iterations of the smart watch in the past, none proved to be really successful and this company easily popularized them. Today we see nearly every cell phone and technology company producing some version of a smart watch as it seems that there is in fact a large market for them.

Pebble originally popped up as a Kickstarter campaign where they advertised the Pebble watch as a smart watch. The watch would be able to pair with a smartphone, and in addition to displaying time would also show things such as phone notifications, reminders, fitness information, and eventually applications that were developed for it. The Pebble watches use an eInk screen like a Nook or Kindle readers. While they are black and white, the screens do not consumer much energy and you can get 7 days of battery.  The watches are also waterproof  up to 130 feet. The original watch was made from of plastic with a had a plastic band when it came out in 2013, but just recently Pebble released a Steel version that is much more premium. The original Pebble costs $99 dollars while the nicer Pebble Steel costs $199 dollars.

Sure there are nicer smart watches out there on the market, like the Moto 360 for example. However the Pebble is still a very cool watch and is certainly minimalistic in nature with its eInk screen. The battery life the Pebbles have also beat out all of the competition. While there are definitely smart watches out on the market with way more features, it was Pebble that popularized the smart watch; they were the ones to make them cool.
