It is extremely difficult to imagine how a “simple” lawn mower could cost more than a brand-new car like the Volkswagen GTI Golf, however that is exactly the case when it comes to John Deere. John Deere is easily the most respected name in terms of agricultural machines and lawn mowers, and their highest-end residential lawn mower is unbelievable. It’s called the John Deere X758 Signature Series Tractor, and it is probably the best lawn mower that money can buy. I mean, it better be, considering it costs more than some cars.
Okay, so the base model of the C758 starts at $13,399 which is absurdly expensive, however you can throw on a bunch of added options and features to bring the price up to $25,000. This is essentially the Mercedes S-Class of residential lawn mowers. To many it’s absurdly unnecessary, but to some, it elevates mowing your lawn to new heights that were previously unimaginable. So why does it cost that much?
Well first of all you are paying for the John Deere name, as again, they are essentially the Mercedes-Benz of the tractor and lawn mower world. Next the X758 has many features that are found on automobiles. The X758 is powered by a three-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 993cc V-Twin diesel engine that produces an Earth shattering 24hp. It has four-wheel drive, large tires, cruise control, a 12-volt power outlet, cup holders, a digital dashboard, a snow plow attachment, reverse lights, a fertilizer spreader, and it even has power steering among other features. Power steering on a lawn mower!? Yes, you have read right. This mower can tackle acres upon acres of grass 4-feet tall. It can pull down trees and then drag them around, and its cutting blades are 60-inches long. This is arguably the best residential lawn mower ever created.
Is the X758 complete overkill and unnecessary? Absolutely. Will it offer the best lawn mowing experience that money can buy? You bet it can. You buy a mower like this because you enjoy, no, love mowing your lawn. A mower like the X758 grants you all the bragging rights, and it better, considering that insane price tag. I’m just surprised it doesn’t have a sound system, but I bet there’s an option for that.
