Will The 2,000hp Trion Nemesis be the First American Hypercar?

Trion Nemesis

About a year or so ago, a unheard of company called Trion Supercars proclaimed that they were going to produce “the first American hypercar” and it would have around 2,000 hp in total. While it seemed exciting, they only released just a few sketches and a spec sheet of their concept vehicle. Well it appears that they are very serious about their vehicle, as the company has recently shown off a model of this insane car.

The vehicle was displayed at a private event in California in front of a select few. Luckily a YouTuber by the name of “Salomondrin” was able to attend the party, and took a video of the vehicle. However it’s not exactly a fully-functioning car. Rather it’s just a model to display what the vehicle will look like whenever it’s actually made, as the one shown does not have an engine in it. The company is still working to iron out all the details, but it does seem exciting.

Trion apparently promises that the car will offer 2,000 hp in total, which in theory, would make it one of the most powerful vehicles ever produced. It will have a twin-turbo, 5.0-liter V8 under the hood and apparently it will be able to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds and achieve a top speed of 290 mph. If that’s true, it would be one of the fastest production vehicles of all-time. The Nemesis will be available in three versions: one that’s priced at $1.6 million and has 1,4000 hp, and then two models that start at $2 million and have 2,000 hp.

While the Trion Nemesis certainly seems very promising and interesting, I am still extremely skeptical of the car. To date, the company has not actually produced a working vehicle, or even a prototype for that matter. At least, to our knowledge that is. Second, they are still a relatively unknown company. If Ford or Chevrolet were going to produce one, then sure okay, but Trion Supercars? Who are they? But I guess that’s what people said about Pagani and Koenigsegg. But most importantly, I do not believe that this car will have 2,000 hp like they claim. The reason is that they say it will only have that 5.0-liter V8 as its powertrain. Do you know of any V8’s that produce that much power? I certainly don’t. Current hybrid-hypercars that have larger combustion engines and then at least two electric motors don’t even offer that much power. Even the massive 8.0-liter W16 engines that are used in the Bugatti Veyrons don’t come close to hitting that number. So while it would be nice to see an American hypercar, I’m quite skeptical of the Trion Nemesis. Hey, I could be totally wrong here, but I think there’s plenty of reasons to raise concern over this car. Maybe if we could see a working prototype? I guess we will just have to wait and see what this car will offer, as we will be waiting until 2016 or 2017  before we finally see real, road-going versions that actually have an engine.
