The AMG GT S is a Two-seat Coupe Created from the Ground Up

In 2010, Mercedes-AMG delivered the SLS: a two-seater, front-engine vehicle that was all about luxury and performance. It was a great grand tourer from the company, however there were some issues. The car was fairly large, and most importantly, the tail-end tended to swing out almost too easily. Needless to say, it was very “slippery”. Then the company followed up with the AMG GT S very recently. Mercedes has listened to customers and designed their newest GT car from the ground-up, and it is pretty great.

The new AMG GT S features an obvious stylistic and appearance change over the SLS, despite the fact that the GT S uses a modified SLS platform as its base. The car has a noticeably shorter wheel base, it’s smaller than the SLS, and it’s much lighter that the SLS as well. Mercedes has also ditched the gullwing doors that were found on the SLS, for normal ones. Overall the GT S appears to be much more civilized, and I think it looks better than the SLS.

Aside from the exterior appearance, the GT S has much to offer in terms of performance and drivability. It packs 4.0-liter, bi-turbo V8 engine under the hood that manages to deliver 510bhp and 650Nm of torque. 0-60 mph is achieved in 3.8 seconds and it has a top speed of 190 mph, so it’s practically a supercar. Despite being more affordable than the SLS, Mercedes doesn’t want you to think that the GT S is worse. It still has all of the power that you could ever want, and it’s offered in a lighter and smaller package. That translates into a more enjoyable driving experience: the GT S is fast, nimble, quick, and it grips really well too. The GT S also has an advanced computer system that offers a series of different driving modes, which means that it can handle almost anything. From cruising around city blocks to tearing up curvy back roads or the track, the GT S can do it all.

So when you take into account all the features that the GT S has to offer, it’s fairly attractive vehicle. While the asking price of $130,000 or so is certainly a lot for a car, the GT S has everything to warrant that price. Still the most notable “feature” is that it’s a Mercedes. Like any vehicle from the company, there is a range of options and features available on the car that make it extremely luxurious. Things like heated cup holders, for example. Mercedes is arguably the best at providing all those added gizmos, and they are certainly very welcomed. Now that the GT S has been available for some time now, all signs point to it being absolutely wonderful. If you’re in the market for a luxury grand tourer, the AMG GT S should be at the top of your list.
