See the Winner for Robb Report’s 2015 Car of the Year

Porsche 918 Spyder

The guys over at Robb Report release an article every year where they take a look at some of the best automobiles that have come out that year. They pick some of the best vehicles around and then rank them in order of ones that they feel are the absolute best, ultimately leading to them picking the best car of the year. So as you can tell from the picture, the car that they picked for the 2015 car of the year is the amazing Porsche 918 Spyder. Let’s take a quick look at this impressive vehicle.

For those unfamiliar, the Porsche 918 Spyder is a mid-engined, plug-in hybrid-supercar from the German company that is arguably the best car that they have ever produced. The vehicle features groundbreaking technology and it is one of the most expensive, rarest, fastest, and highest-performing production vehicles that the company has ever made. This two-seater vehicle is powered by a 4.6 liter V8 engine and then two electric engines: one engine for the front axel and then one for the rear. All together the car has 887 horsepower and a crazy 944lb-ft of torque. In other words, this car is unbelievably fast.

Aside from the cars crazy levels of power, it’s obviously made with some of the most premium materials and technology around. Large amounts of carbon fiber are used to make the car extremely light, and the 918’s computer system can accomplish many things. There are five different driving modes that use either just one or a combination of all the vehicles engines. Porsche was also able to trim off a lot of extra fat to make it even lighter, without compromising the luxury quality of the vehicle. You’ll see other sport cars that are light and fast, but their makers took out things like the radio or air conditioning to make it lighter. That’s not the case with the 918. The result of all these facts is a very fast car. 0-62mph is achieved in just 2.5 seconds according to Porsche, however in Car and Driver’s independent testing they were able to get that number down to just 2.2 seconds. The car also has an incredible top speed of 211 mph. Additionally since the car is all-wheel drive and a Porsche, you can bet that it is an amazing track car. It was the only production first-series, road-legal car to break the Nürburgring lap time record of just 6 minutes and 57 seconds. So no matter which way you look at it, this car is very deserving of their title for the best car of 2015. Runners up were the Ferrari California T and the BMW i8.
