The Rolls Royce Factory is Almost as Stunning as Their Cars

Rolls-Royce

Rolls-Royce makes some of the most, if not the most, luxurious cars in the entire world. The English brand has always prided itself on making some of the nicest cars that money can buy. These vehicles are the top-of-the-line in terms of luxury and are extremely expensive. For a lot of people it would be a dream of owning one of these cars. The company got its start as Rolls-Royce Limited in Manchester, England. The company was founded by Charles Stewart Rolls and Sir Fredrick Henry Royce in 1906. They quickly rose to fame as a prominent auto manufacturer and then eventually branched out into making engines for airplanes. Rolls-Royce supplied the engines for the famous World War II British fighter plane the Supermarine Spitfire. In 1971 Rolls-Royce Limited was split into two different companies: Rolls-Royce Motors and Rolls-Royce Limited (eventually became Rolls-Royce Holdings). The brand wanted to have one division for its cars, and another for everything else.

Today Roll-Royce’s are manufactured in a state-of-the-art “factory” located in southern England. I put factory in quotation marks as it is more of a museum that also produces some of the highest quality vehicles in the world. Immediately when you walk into the factory you are greeted by a nearly century old Rolls-Royce that went through a nearly 2,000 mile race over rough terrain, and of course the vehicle still works today.

There is an area in the factory before you get into the inner workings of how they build the vehicles, where there are a variety of Rolls-Royce vehicles, prototypes, and engines on display for people. The interior of most of the factory is extremely beautiful and visually appealing that has a modern, yet tastefully utilitarian design.

Once inside the part of the factory where the cars are produced you will immediately notice that the majority of the work is being done by hand by a variety of workers. Since Rolls-Royce only produces a limited number of vehicles a year, each car is in no rush to be assembled and is meticulously worked on by hand. Rolls-Royce also allows consumers to be able to customize certain parts of the vehicles, for example you can have a Rolls-Royce painted in any color you want.

The bodies of the cars are actually produced in Germany. Currently Rolls-Royce is owned by BMW so they produce their bodies in their factory in Dingolfing, a small town in Bavaria. The bodies are then shipped over where all the other work is performed in the English factory. The vehicles then move down an assembly line where nearly everything is being installed by a few skilled workers, who make sure that the final product is impeccable. The Rolls-Royce engines are also amazing to look at as they are so massive. The reason they are so large is because these cars weigh several tons.

The Rolls-Royce factory is a truly amazing factory where one can go and see these legendary cars being produced. It is clear that these cars are exceptional based on how they are assembled by hand in this state of the are article. To see the rest of the pictures of the factory head on over to The Verge.
