What Do you Need to Know about the Ferrari Sergio?

Ferrari Sergio 1

Every now and then we get a special and unique car from Ferrari. In addition to their normal lineup, Ferrari likes to make extremely exclusive vehicles that tend to push the envelope for what can be considered a supercar. Typically these limited edition vehicles are produced to celebrate some event or some one. One of those cars would be the Ferrari Sergio, and it is certainly a interesting vehicle.

Concept cars are always praised for their futuristic and progressive design, so Ferrari basically decided to just build one and then sell it. This particular Ferrari was produced to commemorate 60 years of working with Pininfarina, who are a private Italian design firm that often provides work and material for Ferrari. Additionally the car has be named after the founder of the company, Sergio Pininfarina who recently died back in 2012.

The design of the Ferrari Sergio is certainly very polarizing; purists of the brand may not be a fan. Still though, this Ferrari is extremely unique and not like others in terms of appearance. The vehicle features a “floating spoiler” behind the head rests that also doubles as a roll bar. The car is also a permanently a convertible and it does not have a windshield. To combat this, the car is designed in such a way that at speeds over 31 miles per hour, airflow will pass over the car in such a way that it will act as a virtual windshield. Still you probably should wear at least racing goggles when you drive this beast. The interior of the vehicle features premium leather seats, Ferrari red stitching, and a carbon-fiber dashboard

Despite the radical exterior of the Sergio, on the inside it is basically just a Ferrari 458 Spider. The Sergio borrows the 458’s 4.5 liter naturally aspirated V8 engine that packs 597 horsepower into the vehicle. That engine allows the Sergio to accelerate from 0-60 mph in under 3.4 seconds, which I can imagine feels even faster in a convertible with no windscreen. The Sergio also has the same chassis as the 458 as well. Unfortunately for those looking to buy this $3 million dollar supercar, only six are being produced and they have already sold-out, which is usually how these cars go.
