A Look at Five of The Most Expensive Electric Cars

Expensive Electric Cars

Electric cars are truly the future of the automobile industry, and we’ve already seen some impressive vehicles released. We already know that electric cars, by their nature, can offer higher-levels of performance compared to traditional automobiles. However there are some downsides to electric vehicles like their limited range due to battery capacities, the time that they take to charge up, and the fact that they are still expensive. Still, despite all of this, electric cars are very impressive. When we think of expensive electric cars, vehicles like the Tesla Model S come to mind. However there are many other electric vehicles that make the Model S seem like a Toyota Corolla, in terms of price. So let’s take a look at five of the most expensive, fully-electric cars in the world.

Tesla Model S

5. The Tesla Model S P85D – $105,000

Tesla is probably the most famous electric car company right now, and their Model S makes our list. While they only currenty offer just one model of car, it comes in a few different versions. At $105,000 dollars the Model S P85D is the companies top-of-the-line automobile. Don’t let it’s sedan look confuse you, as this car is practically a sports car. The vehicle has two electric engines that deliver 691 hp in total. The car has a range of around 250 miles and it can reach a top speed of 155 mph. However the most impressive feature, beside the AutoPilot system, is the cars acceleration. The P85D has a “Ludicrous Speed Mode” that allows it to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds. That’s on par with modern supercars.

Plans for the production of the Lightning GT have been around for years, and we finally should see the vehicle released sometime this year. Produced by the small, British company known as the Lightning Car Company, The Lightning GT is a fully-electric sports cars. Only 50 examples of the car will be made, but they will feature many luxury and bespoke features that Britain is known for and the car is constructed entirely by hand. The car is expected to have a top speed of 130 mph and it should be able to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in around 5 seconds.

Mercedes-Benz has made a couple electric versions of their SLS, and the SLS AMG Electric Drive version is one of the most impressive iterations. Released in 2013, this SLS is truly a fully-electric supercar. It has four electric motors, one for each wheel, which provides the car with 751 hp. Rimac Concept One

2. The Rimac Concept One – $980,000

Chances are you may have not heard of the Rimac Concept One, but it’s an extremely impressive automobile. Released in 2013 by the Croatian company called Rimac Automobili, the Concept One has often been described as the first electric supercar in the world. That might be debatable, but the performance certainly isn’t. The car is sleek looking, it’s made from carbon fiber, it has all-wheel torque vectoring, the interior was designed by a former member of Pininfarina, and it’s electric engine manages to deliver 1,088 hp in total! The car can reach speeds of 190 mph and it can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds. It’s truly an all-electric supercar….with a supercar price tag.

Rolls-Royce Phantom 102EX

1. The Rolls-Royce Phantom 102EX Concept

Released in 2011 and marketed as the world’s “first electric vehicle for the ultra-luxury segment”, the Rolls-Royce Phantom 102EX Concept is quite the vehicle. Basically, Rolls took out their massive V12 and put in two electric motors. The car was created to see if a fully-electric Rolls-Royce was actually viable. But as it turned out, it wasn’t really. The two engines only offers 389 hp, which may as well be nothing in a car that weights 3,366 pounds. Still it’s the quietists Phantom ever made, and has all the luxury and bespoke features seen on any Rolls-Royce. However as you noticed, we have not included a price for this vehicle. The reason is because only one was ever made, and it was a concept car that was never for sale. So we have no idea how much it could cost, but given the fact that it’s an electric Rolls-Royce and a one-off, it’s probably over $1 million at least.
