Jaguar E-Type is Voted the Greatest British Car of All-Time

Jaguar E-Type Names Greatest British Car

Throughout the history of the automobile as a whole, there have been some truly incredible vehicles and brands from Great Britain. Notable standouts include the Mini Cooper S, the Rolls-Royce Phantom, and the McLaren F1 among many others. The sheer number of amazing vehicles from Britain made many people begin to wonder, “what’s the greatest British car of all-time?” Well, the people over at Classic & Sport Car put up an online poll where users from around the world could vote their favorite British car to the top. All of the greats made the list, but there was one clear and definitive winner: the Jaguar E-Type.

The Classic & Sports Car London Show opened its doors at Alexandra Palace for the first time this morning, with countless visitors flooding into the show halls after For The Love of Cars’ Ant Anstead cut the green ribbon.

Visitors didn’t have long to wait before the winner of the much-anticipated Best British Car Ever feature was announced, the red veil finally being removed following months of public voting. Despite fierce competition from some of the most innovative British designs of the past 100 years, including Colin Chapman’s ingenious Lotus Seven and Sir Alec Issigonis’ ground-breaking Mini Cooper ‘S’, the overall winner was judged to be the Jaguar E-type – a verdict that went down well with the waiting crowd.

Anyone that knows a thing or two about British cars probably saw this coming from a mile away. Jaguar introduced the E-Type back in 1961 and produced it all the way up to 1975. During that time it quickly became a favorite car amongst many car fans from around the world, and has often been described as one of the most beautiful cars ever made. The E-Type was an iconic roadster that perfectly balanced great looks and performance with a fairly reasonable price tag.

It was a car that one could realistically afford some day (at least hope too), unlike a Bentley or an Aston Martin, for example. One could even argue that the E-Type was a pioneering vehicle when it came to sporty, two-seater roadsters. They embodied everything that British cars were about, and they still remain to be the most iconic British car of all-time. So hats off to you, Jaguar.
