Ferrari Collector Pays Over $800,000 for the License Plate "25 O"

In the world of automobiles, there are a few ways to stand out of the regular crowd. You could get a custom paint job, a personalized license plate, or even buy a supercar. Personalized license plates are a great way to have a fun little message put onto your vehicle. Typically you have to pay some sort of fee to get your personalized license plate, and it usually is not too much. However, how far would you go to get a specific personalized plate for a specific car? Well a Ferrari collector in the United Kingdom went to great lengths for one.

John Collins is an English collector of classic Ferrari’s and he really wanted a specific license plate for his Ferrari 250 GT SWB. He wanted his license plate to read just “25 O” and spent around $800,000 dollars in a recent auction at the United Kingdom’s Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency to commemorate their 25th year anniversary. Apparently this particular license plate was a hot commodity, and was heavily desired by many, particular Ferrari 250 owners. Ferrari’s 250 series were produced from 1953 to 1964, and are some of their most iconic classic models.

John Collins didn’t stop there, being a wealthy man who has multiple Ferrari’s and can drop $800,000 on a license plate, he also wanted to secure the license plate “250 L” for his 1964 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso. So he dropped another $205,000 dollars to get that license plate, thus spending over $1 million dollars on license plates.

I cannot help myself but to wonder what it would be like to be so wealthy, that you can spend that kind of money on a license plate. I mean, with the money he spent, you can but a few brand new Ferraris easily. It is just amazing to see what kind of lengths people will go to for a license plate. If you have $800,000 would you spend it on a personalized license plate?
