The Most Expensive Hybrid Cars on the Market Today

2013 Geneva Auto Show

Hybrid cars are becoming more and more popular in the automobile world. Companies recognize the lack of oil in the world and the importance of offering eco-friendly vehicles to their customers. While hybrid cars originally started out only offered in models like the Toyota Prius, you’d be surprised at just how many companies offer their high end models in a hybrid version. Here are the most expensive hybrid cars on the market today!

5. Lexus LS 600h L Sedan – $120,000

This Lexus model is the most expensive luxury sedan hybrid out there, but is definitely the nicest. This is a Lexus model that has undergone plenty of changes since it’s inception in 2007, but the product that the company is currently delivering is 100% luxury with it’s smooth leather interior accented by the wood finish. The hybrid version of the car comes with two electric motors but can still go from 0 to 60 in only 5.5 seconds.

4. BMW i8 – $191,500

The BMW i8 looks like a car straight out of the movie Tron. The car has a very sleek and futuristic design that was first displayed as a concept back during 2009 but has now become a reality. The electric motor in this hybrid luxury car pumps out 129 horsepower as well as 228 from its regular motor which gives this car plenty of power that can last for awhile. The car looks cool, especially for a hybrid model, and will release later this year.

3. Porsche 918 – $845,000

The hybrid version of the Porsche 918 has been very highly anticipated since it was revealed back in 2010. The normal motor offers a huge 608 horsepower but also houses two electric motors that can create another 279 horsepower that really gets this hypercar moving whether you’re running it on gas or electricity. The hybrid can go from 0 to 62 miles per hour in only 2.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 214 miles per hour.

2. McLaren P1 – $1.15 million

McLaren is always known for their top of the line supercars, an they have once again delivered with the P1 hybrid. Only 375 units of this car were made and they sold out very quickly despite the $1.15 million price tag. The car can reach 0 to 62 miles per hour in 2.8 seconds (just slower than the Porsche 918) but reaches a top speed of 238 miles per hour, which is absolutely insane.

1. LaFerrari – $1.3 million

This is the first Ferrari car to offer a hybrid function, but it is still the most powerful Ferrari car available. Rather than having to plug the car into a charger all of the time to juice up the electric motor, the car uses a Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) which recharges the battery every time the brake is used. It has a massive V12 engine and the electric motor puts out an additional 161 horsepower, but surprisingly this car can’t fully run on electric, only use it to boost the power of the car. All of the 499 limited edition models have already sold out and this car looks like a nice addition for collectors.
