The $1 Million Touring Superleggera Berlinetta Lusso

Touring Superleggera Berlinetta Lusso

If you have ever wondered what exactly happens when a bespoke coach building company gets their hands on a Ferrari, then we’ve found the answer for you. Meet the Touring Superleggera Berlinetta Lusso, it’s a custom made automobile that is based on the Ferrari F12 and it is absolutely awe inspiring.

Touring Superleggera is a bespoke coach building firm based out of Milan that is all about design, and as we all know, Italians and design go hand-in-hand. They initially gained fame from modifying old Alfa Romeos back in the day. Now they have moved on to more expensive vehicles, like Ferraris, and the Berlinetta Lusso is their most recent creation.

Since their predominant claim-to-fame is design, let’s talk about the looks first. There is absolutely no mistaking that this vehicle is beautiful. To say otherwise would simply be an injustice in my book. Ferrari, in my opinion, produces the best looking cars out there. It would be difficult for a company to make a Ferrari look even better, but I think Touring has actually accomplished that here. The entire body is made from hand, which certainly gives it a more old-school vibe, but in a good way. “Superleggera” in Italian roughly means “superlight”, and the Berlinetta Lusso is certainly lightweight. Touring uses a special method of constructing tube under-frames to act as a support for lightweight body panels that are made by hand and are constructed from aluminum alloys and carbon fiber. This car isn’t produced in some assembly line, rather, a small team of master craftsmen work on just one unit at a time in a small garage and they truly care about the car (not that Ferrari doesn’t).

Under the vehicles body, we find the F12 chassis and the incredible, naturally-aspirated V12 engine from Ferrari. This V12 engine is like a work of art, and it provides more than enough power. It offers 731 hp and 509 lb-ft of torque. This allows the Berlinetta Lusso to achieve a top speed of 205 mph and a 0-60 mph time of just 3 seconds. So you should have no doubts that this vehicle is quite fast. That engine is also very advanced as it is controlled via a computer system that offers various driving modes and what not. Additionally the vehicle has the same seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission with an electronic E-diff found in the regular F12.

While the exterior of the car has been considerably altered, the interior is pretty much the same as the F12, which certainly isn’t a bad thing. You’ll find cream/tan colored leather seats, and a black and blue dash/trim that matches the exterior of the car. While it would have been nice to see some interior changes, that’s not what Touring Superleggera is about.

So at the end of the day, Touring Superleggera took a Ferrari F12 and has arguably made it better. Since it’s lighter than an F12, driving it will fell different. Still, this car is all about the looks. You’re getting a vehicle with a hand-sculpted body made from carbon fiber and aluminum alloys; that’s something you don’t often find in todays world that relies so heavily on machines. In total, only five of the Berlinetta Lusso’s will be produced, so it’s also extremely limited. When you take that into consideration and what this vehicle is made from (and how it’s made), it certainly makes sense that it’s priced at around $1 million. Most of us will never get to drive this car, let alone actually see one, however there is no denying that the Berlinetta Lusso is truly a remarkable vehicle.
