5 Actors That Didn’t Like Being in Star Wars

Star Wars

Now that Star Wars has become an international sensation over the years, one would think that any actor or actress would love to be apart of this incredible franchise. The films have spawned countless novels, video games, and merchandise over the years, and as fans gear up for the newest Star Wars film this winter, it’s safe to say that Star Wars is pretty big. However there have been a few actors who have expressed their distaste for the series, because they had some difficulties while filming the movies. Here are five actors from Star Wars that didn’t like being in the movies at all, one’s that seem to almost regret the entire experience.

Peter Serafinowicz

5. Peter Serafinowicz

While English actor Peter Serafinowicz is actually never seen in Star Wars, he did serve as the voice for Darth Maul, one of the leading villains in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. He was brought on early in the film and recorded a good amount of dialogue for the role, however most of which was then scrapped, as Darth Maul would only end up saying just three lines in the final version of the film. Recalling his experience in interviews, he said that he was given virtually no direction for the role besides to “just sound evil”. Once the movie finally was released, he was disheartened to find out that he did not receive an invite for the premiere in New York, and had to pay out of pocket to secure one. Needless to say, he didn’t exactly have a “positive” experience as an actor in Star Wars.

Jake Lloyd

3. Jake Lloyd

Jake Lloyd was brought on Star Wars as a young boy to portray the role of young Anakin Skywalker in The Phantom Menace. While he did have a positive experience with Star Wars during the filming process, it was after the movie was released that he clearly seemed to regret being a part of the franchise. In more recent interviews, he recalled that he was heavily bullied by other kids while he was still in school after the movie came out. Apparently they were so mean to him, that he swore of acting and now “hates when cameras are pointed at him”.

 Alec Guinness

2. Alec Guinness

The late Sir Alec Guinness was already an Academy Award winner when he was brought on to play Obi-Wan Kenobi in the original series. At the time, Star Wars was extremely ambitious and seemed silly to most, and Alec had reservations about playing a role in the film. During the filming, he expressed his distaste over both his role and the films saying that his character lacked depth and that the dialogue was “poor” and “confusing”. Later in life he even described Star Wars as “fairy tale rubbish” despite playing one of the most iconic roles in the films.

David Prowse

David Prowse is famously known for playing Darth Vader in the original movies, and is also known to have a host of negative experiences with the films. When they were originally filming the first movie, Prowse not only wore the suit but provided the voice for Darth Vader as well. But as many fans know, his voice was then dubbed over and replaced by James Earl Jones. He recalled that this was all done without letting him know, which obviously would rub anyone the wrong way. This would then lead into a few feuds with George Lucas, and when we finally see the face of Darth Vader in The Return of The Jedi, he was replaced again by Sebastian Shaw.
