Five Surprising Numbers from Matchmaking Site eHarmony

Husband Finds Wife's Engagement Ring At Trash Dump, After Mistakenly Throwing It Out

eHarmony is one of the most popular online dating websites designed specifically to match single men and women with each other for long-term relationships. The self-proclaimed “#1 Trusted Relationship-Minded Dating Site,” eHarmony has actually ranked first among dating sites for most online marriages and marital satisfaction. Founded by psychologist and author Dr. Neil Clark Warren in August 2000 and headquartered in Santa Monica, California, eHarmony has members in more than 150 countries and maintains operations in the United States, Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Brazil. The privately held company also operated eHarmony Labs, a relationship research facility to optimize the matchmaking process, and publishes eHarmony Advice, a relationship advice site. Read on five the top five surprising numbers from matchmaking site eHarmony.

5. 71 and 69

Out of the total number of registered eHarmony users, 71 percent of women and 69 percent of men meet their spouse within a year. That’s a pretty promising statistic for men and women out there struggling to find their significant other. Not only do a majority of users meet their spouse within a year, but the median time until they get married is 1.8 years.

4. 436

Before playing the online dating field through eHarmony, users must first answer a 436 question profile. A pretty daunting number for many people, the answers to these questions are what help eHarmony obtain such a high success rate. Some users might not even be accepted in the end due to being under the minimum age, providing inconsistent answers, or being identified as having mood disorders.

3. $59 million

In the first half of 2014, eHarmony had spent more than $59 million on television advertising. From its “Speed Dating” spot to the site’s “We Never Would Have Met…” user testimonials, eHarmony spends millions on commercial spots every year–still less than rival Match.com’s $71.5 million. The top five networks receiving eHarmony’s dollars include TNT, CNN, TBS, USA Network, and BRAVO.

2. 762,000

As of May 2014, eHarmony has over 762,000 paying members–a statistic that is up by more than 50 percent from last year. Although the majority of the site’s users use eHarmony for free, paid subscribers have access to more features. The Basic plan allows you to see who has viewed your profile, gives you access to view your match’s pictures and the ability to communicate with them, while the premium Total Connect Plan includes the premium personality profile, RelyID, and a secure call system.

1. 600,000

Over the course of eHarmony’s 14-year existence, more than 600,000 married couples have found love through the matchmaking website–that’s more than 1.2 million men and women. Since its inception, eHarmony has had more than 45 million subscribers, meaning approximately one of out every seven people in the country has tried the site at one point. On average, 438 people marry every day in the U.S. after being matched on eHarmony–nearly 4 percent of all new marriages.
