The Five Biggest One Day Gains in Stock Market History

When the stock market changes, it’s more often than not a very minor change. While big drops and gains are expected and do occur regularly, most of the point changes in the stock market are nothing that overly concerns anyone. Of course, when a change is big – for the positive – it’s a good day for investors. Read on to find out the five biggest daily gains in stock market history, all of which were good days for investors.

March 23, 2009

Following the tumultuous days in 2008 when the market dropped significantly more often than not, it was a refreshing change to see this day come. The daily points rose 497.48 points on this day. The big gain was a happy change for investors who watched the market with fear most other days.

March 16, 2000

With a gain of 499.19 points in just one day, it was a good day for investors and the people on Wall Street. This particular gain was much needed at this particular time, and it helped to rally investors and boost morale. It was one of the largest one-day gains in history.

November 13, 2008

Just like the biggest one-day point drops in the stock market, the biggest gains all came within a few months of one another, and they all came at the same time, which is fall of 2008. In one month, the market saw the three biggest one-day point changes for the positive that it has in recent history.

October 28, 2008

With a gain of 889.35 coming just two weeks after the biggest gain in history, it was another good day among a long list of not so good days on Wall Street. Investors saw points rise significantly amid nothing but down days. When it was a good day during this tumultuous period of time, it was a very good day.

October 13, 2008

This gain comes only two weeks after the biggest one-day drop in the history of the stock market. It helped the world of investors and Wall Street employees breathe a collective sigh of relief to see the one-day gain rise 936.42 points on this particular day. Unfortunately, a number of large drops would occur afterward.
