The Biggest Celebrity Business Flops

"Keeping Up With The Kardashians" Season Two Launch - Arrivals

We’re not sure what it is about celebrities that make them think that they can do it all, but as we’ve seen over the years, not every decision they make pans out the way they think—or hope. Take these businesses that a few of them have found themselves in—well, for a short period, at least before they flopped.

5. Jennifer Lopez – Madres

Singer/Actor Jennifer Lopez might appear that she has good taste in everything she does, but J-Lo found that starting a restaurant is tough work, after her and her mom opened up a Puerto Rican inspired eatery in California back in 2002. Even with plates ranging from $30-$50, Madres did last six years before abruptly closing without reason. We’re guessing it’s because of poor sales.

4. Britney Spears – Nyla

Remember when there wasn’t a person on the planet bigger than Britney Spears? Well the Louisiana native used that popularity and power to open her own Cajun themed restaurant—in Manhattan. Thanks to numerous problems like low interest, bad reviews and high staff turnover, the place shut down after six months—even after an overhaul from Cajun to Italian food.

3. Hulk Hogan – Pastamania!

Believe it or not, but the same company that gave former boxing heavyweight champ George Foreman his grill deal, they went to wrestling legend Hulk Hogan, first. Passing on it, Hogan tried to pull a quick mulligan by opening up a restaurant in the mid-’90s that didn’t really go as well, folding after just one year in the Mall of America.

2. Kanye West – Pastelle

Say what you want to about some of the fashion decisions rapper Kanye West actually makes, but the dude takes chances—and can pull off things that most men couldn’t. It’s that fashion interest that inspired West to open his own clothing line, Pastelle, in 2009. How brief was it for him, though? Try two days, as the line went from revealed online to completely folding just 48 hours later.

1. The Kardashians – The Kardashian Kard

While the Kardashian family has made a fortune with a number of different business decisions, one of their worst came in 2008 when they started their own prepaid debit card. Catching heat due to high fees and hopeful, teen market, sisters Kim, Kourtney and Khloe left their contracts and the entire project was gone after one month.
