Five Things You Didn’t Know about MLB Player Ryan Howard

Barry Bonds And The 40/40 Club All Star Game Party

Ryan Howard is one of the most famous players in all of Major League Baseball. In his tenure as first baseman for the Philadelphia Phillies, Howard has earned both the NL Rookie of the Year and NL MVP awards, helped his team win five straight division titles, and was instrumental in the Phillies 2008 World Series win. However, while you might know all of those facts about Ryan Howard, there are definitely some things that aren’t as well-known about the guy. Here are five things you didn’t know about MLB player Ryan Howard.

His net worth is $60 million

In 2010, Howard signed a 5-year deal with the Phillies which was worth $125 million, and even though he’s been hurt the past couple of seasons and hasn’t produced as much as he’s supposed to, Howard is still guaranteed that money. Plus, in addition to the salary from his contract, Howard is also a spokesperson for Subway, among other endorsement deals that he also has. Right now, his net worth is an estimated $60 million.

He’s guest starred on three major television comedies over the past few years

You might know Ryan Howard the baseball player, but do you know Ryan Howard the actor? Howard has guest starred on EntourageThe Office, and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (alongside teammate and Phillies second baseman, Chase Utley). And even though Howard might not having the acting range of Denzel Washington or Matthew McConaughey, he’s been really solid in all of his cameos, getting lots of laughs, at least from me,  every time he shows up. (Side note: as a Phillies fan, Howard and Utley’s cameo episode is one of my all-time favorite It’s Always Sunny episodes.)

He has a twin brother

Howard has three siblings: an older brother, a younger sister, and a fraternal twin brother, Corey. And even though Corey and Ryan are not technically identical, I’ve seen the two of them standing next to each other before, and I’ve got to say, the resemblance between them is absolutely uncanny.

He’s married to an Eagles cheerleader

Ryan Howard was able to find love in the City of Brotherly Love. He met and dated Eagles cheerleader, Krystie Campbell, for a long while before the two got married to each other in Maui back on December 1, 2012. I’m not sure how exactly Howard and Campbell met (I’m guessing it might have been at a Philly sports function of some sort), but what I really want to know is if Campbell likes football more than she likes baseball.

He may like Nickleback

This could simply just be a joke/rumor that has spiraled out of control, but since Ryan Howard did not deny it and essentially admitted that he has and does listen to Nickelback, I have to put it on here. At a recent Phillies/Braves game at Turner Field, a Braves fan held up a sign that read, “Ryan Howard Likes Nickelback.” When asked what he thought about the sign and if he really did like the band by MLB.com’s Todd Zolecki, this was Howard’s response: “”Is it bad to listen to Nickelback? … I mean, I’m not afraid to say that I diversify my musical portfolio. I didn’t know they could see or hear what … how do they know I listen to Nickelback? I listen to everything. I don’t know if there’s a specific song by Nickelback (I listen to).”
