If you listen to the news, you may notice that from time to time, major retail stores close some branches. There are several reasons for this, and either way, it helps to be prepared for their closure so you can find alternatives on time. Here is a list of ten retail stores closing in 2025 and may leave your area.
Macy’s

Macy’s, founded in New York over 150 years ago, has grown into one of the top retail chains in the US, with locations across the country. However, the company is downsizing and planning to close over 100 stores, with around 65 expected to shut their doors by the end of 2025 as part of their restructuring efforts.
Walgreens

The drugstore corporation seems to have no tolerance for unprofitability, which is the driving force behind its decision to close roughly 1,200 branches in the US. Not all of them will be closed at once, but more than a quarter—500—will have to go before the end of 2025. More will follow in 2026 and 2027.
Dollar Tree

As for Dollar Tree, they have a significant number of stores going away. Before 2025 is over, we would no longer have 30 Dollar Tree stores, and even their Family Dollar brand would lose close to a thousand of its outlets. Low-end shoppers will heavily miss the trusted brand that easily comes to mind for variety and discount shopping.
Starbucks

Starbucks has gone from being a coffee bean wholesaler to a coffee shop and is currently arguably the top chain of coffeehouses in the US. However, having too many outlets or having outlets in certain places could be harming their operations. To fix this, they will shut down some of their stores come 2025.
CVS

This pharmacy chain may be looking at improving its health services, but its store numbers may face a decline. Three hundred closed in 2024, and hundreds more are expected to shut down in 2025. As they close these branches, some CVS Pharmacy y más locations, which cater specifically to the Hispanic community, may also be impacted.
Denny’s

Seventy years after being launched as a coffee shop, Denny’s can now brag about being one of the most popular restaurants in the US. However, they are currently shedding off some stores, and this will continue until 2025. Financial struggles and commercial appeal, depending on location, are some reasons the branches are packing up.
Mosaic Brands

Mosaic Brands, which includes sub-brands like Millers, Noni B, and Katies, is undergoing significant restructuring in early 2025. They plan to close 160 stores across these brands to address financial challenges. This includes shutting down all 80 Katies stores and 80 stores combined from Millers, Noni B, and Rivers.
Advance Auto Parts

In 2025, Advance Auto Parts will be letting go of at least 700 of their thousands of stores due to restructuring efforts. However, with roughly five thousand stores remaining, many customers may not feel the impact as strongly. The closures will be followed by the opening of newer, more strategically located stores.
Foot Locker

Reflecting on 2024, it was a challenging year for Foot Locker, which is continuing its plan to close an additional 400 stores despite already shutting some locations that year. Among these closures, 125 Champs Sports branches are set to close by the end of 2026. After these changes, Foot Locker will still maintain over 2,000 outlets worldwide.
Party City

Party City has had its run and is now bowing out of the retail market entirely. Leaving the retail market also means closing its stores, a process expected to conclude by February 2025. It has already filed for bankruptcy, but some independently owned stores may remain open and could possibly change their names or management.
