Travelers across the world participated in a poll held by the US News and World Report to decide what the top ten places to visit in the world for 2014 were. Close to 300 destinations were ranked in the poll.
Ultimately, Paris ended up grabbing the top spot on the list for the second year in the row, with London and Barcelona rounding coming in at number two and number three, respectively. However, Paris didn’t earn the number one position by much. It beat out London by merely one percent in the voters’ approval ratings, having 79% to London’s 78%.
“Containing world-class museums, fashion, cuisine, and an atmosphere all its own, Paris is also a city of ‘many splendors,’ as Ernest Hemingway recalled in his memoirs, ‘A Moveable Feast,'” states the US News and World Report’s description of the City of Lights.
Elsewhere on the list, the United States, somewhat surprisingly, has three of its cities on the list with Maui coming in the fourth spot, followed by New York at number five, and then San Francisco at number six.
