Vertu and Bentley Combine Forces to Create Luxury Smartphones

75th International Geneva Motor Show

Well, this certainly makes for an interesting pair. British luxury mobile phone company, Vertu, and British luxury automaker, Bentley Motors, are coming together and using the luxurious forces to create luxury smartphones. Reportedly, the two companies have been working together on “Vertu for Bentley” luxury smartphones, the first of which will hit stores in October. After the initial phone’s debut in the fall, there will be four more models of luxury smartphones that the duo will release together throughout their exclusive five year partnership.

There’s no specific details yet about what exact features these new luxury smartphones will possess (aside from obviously being super, incredibly luxurious). The phones “will be jointly designed by the Vertu and Bentley design teams, based on a relationship that goes far deeper than the utilization of materials and cues on design,” and they will also offer exclusive Bentley content to Bentley customers who purchase one of the five possible phones that will be released over the next few years.

While this certainly sounds like an interesting idea (I’m shocked no other luxury phone companies and automakers have done this before now), I’m still skeptical about how great these new luxury smartphones will be until we learn about some of the real, particular features that they offer. In order to really make a splash in the mobile phone business, these new Vertu/Bentley products will have to do more than just provide exclusive Bentley-related content. Otherwise, no matter how matter luxurious they are, these phones will fade into the background against their more well-known and highly regarded competitors.
