Coffee is what makes or breaks a day. It’s the founding force behind a good mood or the lack thereof. When times are desperate, most people don’t care what their coffee tastes like provided it has enough caffeine. But to ensure you have a great day, you might want to try one of the most expensive coffees in the world. With prices like these, they’re bound to be delicious and pack a major punch.
Luwak Coffee from Indonesia
Not only does this particular coffee take the top spot as most expensive coffee in the world at $160 a pound, it’s also produced in a very interesting manner. Not only is this coffee made with a coffee bean, it’s made with a coffee bean that’s been previously eaten by a mongoose and passed through its digestive system. If you’re at a coffee shop and see civet coffee on the menu, just know that ordering it means you’re about to digest previously digested coffee.
Hacienda la Esmeralda
Grown only on Panama, this expensive coffee costs $104 per pound. The beans are cultivated beneath the shade of guava trees, which provides it with a unique taste you won’t find anywhere else. It’s not the kind of coffee you’ll find at your local Starbucks, or even in many places in the US. In South America, however, you’ll find it in most upscale coffee shops and hotels.
St. Helena Coffee Company’s Island
At $79 per pound, this coffee bean comes from the island of St. Helena. This island is about 1200 miles from the coast of Africa and the coffee has a great background. Napoleon Bonaparte praised and sowed the seeds himself in his day. It’s part of the reason this particular brand of coffee bean became so popular. Still, at $79 a pound, it’s not something you’ll drink every day.
