Renowned German automobile, motorcycle, and engine manufacturer BMW has unveiled two all-new BMW SUVs that are planned to be shown at this month’s Los Angeles Auto Show. Both the X5 M and X6 M 2016 models feature a twin-turbo four-liter V8 engine (the same engine that currently powers the company’s M5 executive sports sedan and M6 coupe), an overhauled eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission, a BMW M specific xDrive system, a top speed of 174 miles per hour, 567 horsepower, 553 lb.-ft. of torque, and the ability to go from zero to 62 miles per hour in only 4.2 seconds. To keep the luxury SUVs’ massive power under the control, both vehicles also feature a double-wishbone front suspension, an auto-leveling rear air suspension, 21-inch light alloy wheels, and massive Michelin tires. The X5 M and X6 M’s eye-catching exterior design is sleek and aerodynamically optimized in the front and the rear, while the vehicles’ interior is composed of premium materials and features heavily bolstered leather M seats, a new sportier steering wheel, and aluminum paddle shifters.
These all-new BMW SUVs are not only faster and lighter than the vehicles they’re replacing, but they also give a number of other luxury performance SUVs a serious run for their money by either matching or outright beating them in terms of straight-line speed and acceleration. The BMW X5 M has an estimated starting price of $99,650, while the X6 M is expected to cost upwards of $103,050, both with an additional $950 destination charge. Both BMW models will be officially unveiled at this month’s Los Angeles Auto Show which will be open to the public from November 21st to the 30th at Los Angeles Convention Center (purchase tickets here). After their stint at the LA Auto Show, the cars will make an appearance at the Geneva Motor Show next March before going on sale in April of 2015. Headquartered in Munich, Germany, Bayerische Motoren Werke AG–commonly known as BMW or BMW AG–was founded in 1916 and is part of the “German Big Three” luxury automakers, along with Audi and Mercedes-Benz, which are the three best-selling luxury automakers in the world.
