The 15 Most Expensive Rides Owned by Athletes

Ferrari-LaFerrari-race-track

If there’s one way to flaunt the amount of money someone makes and really show-off, having an incredible car is the way to do it. Unlike a big house, a car gets the attention of people anywhere you go, with jaws being dropped and heads being turned as it passes by. And, as you might imagine, athletes are well-aware of this. For that reason, I figured I would see which players have dropped serious coin on their rides, as these are the most expensive cars owned by athletes.

Ford-F650

15. Ford F650 – $200,000-plus (Joe Johnson)

What’s the next best thing to have besides just an 18-wheeler? How about this ridiculous Ford F650 that Brooklyn Nets player Joe Johnson has? Complete with six doors and elevated a couple of feet off the ground, the seven-time All-Star was happy to pay $200,000 for this rare truck, no doubt causing other drivers to be intimidated if they ever see it on the road.

Lamborghini-Gallardo-LP-550-2

14. Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2 – $207,486 (Nani)

Hearing that a Portuguese soccer star drives around a $200,000-plus car probably isn’t too shocking. But hearing that it’s Nani and not just his international teammate Cristiano Ronaldo probably is. Still, Nani is one of the most exciting players to watch in the world, and playing for Manchester United, he gets paid quite the amount of money, making his purchase of this Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2 very capable.

Mercedes-Benz-SLS-AMG

13. Mercedes-Benz SLS-AMG – $219,602 (Arda Turan)

Another soccer star who falls on this list, Turkish player Arda Turan can all this incredible, Mercedes-Benz SLS-AMG his own. With a price tag of nearly $220,000, Turan shows that, while casual soccer fans might not know his name, he earns the type of money that only the top form players do.

Mercedes-Benz-SL65-AMG

12. Mercedes-Benz SL65-AMG – $227,175 (Didier Drogba)

At one point, longtime soccer star Didier Drogba of EPL team Chelsea was the highest-paid player in the world, making him have cash for things that most of us could only dream of. So what does a player like Drogba like to spend his hard earned money on? Well, sleek cars, of course. With several different types of rides that he has been seen driving, his Mercedes-Benz SL65-AMG is the most expensive one that he owns.

Aston-Martin-Vanquish-S

11. Aston Martin Vanquish S – $227,175 (Wayne Rooney)

There are several iconic cars in English culture. One of those happens to be the Aston Martin Vanquish S, which gives the impression that James Bond himself is driving around the streets. And, while he might not be a crime-fighting legend like Bond, soccer star Wayne Rooney is seen as a legend just like the fictional character. So, of course, he rewarded himself with the car, dropping $227,175 to do so.

Chrome-Aston-Martin-DBS

10. Chrome Aston Martin DBS – $257,465 (Jermaine Pennant)

He may be getting a little bit older, but soccer player Jermaine Pennant still has plenty of money in his bank account. Need proof? Look no further than this insane Aston Martin DBS, which Pennant had chromed out to see the faces of everyone that he drives by reflect off of it. With insane top speeds and a sleek design, it’s every bit worth the over $257,000 that he spent on it.

Ferrari-612-Scaglietti

9. Ferrari 612 Scaglietti – $302,900 (Frank Lampard)

While visiting London a couple of years ago, I once saw iconic English soccer player Frank Lampard in a 24-hour restaurant at about three-in-the-morning. Seeing how he pushes around a Ferrari 612 Scaglietti worth $302,900, I probably should have asked him if he could have taken my buddies and I back to our hotel—because that would have sent quite the message to all those who saw us getting out of that thing.

Ferrari-F12-Berlinetta

8. Ferrari F12 Berlinetta – $363,480 (Mario Balotelli)

Another soccer player who is all about flare, Italian international and Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli has quite the car collection. One of his most expensive just so happens to be this Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, which, at a cost of nearly $364,000 is a sign of the cash he makes on the regular. And seeing how Balotelli’s is camouflaged out, it makes it even more unique.

N50M-Lamborghini

7. N50M Lamborghini – $378,625 (Obafemi Martins)

Obafemi Martins doesn’t play for a top-level club like he once did—instead “settling” for the MLS’ Seattle Sounders—but that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t still earn lots of money. Known for his blazing speed, Martins figured that he would duplicate his known attribute by getting a really fast (and really expensive) car. He accomplished that, dropping over $378,000 on this N50M Lamborghini.

Gurkha-F5-Armored-Truck

6. Gurkha F5 Armored Truck – $450,000 (J.R. Smith)

A sharpshooter on the basketball court, newly-acquired Cleveland Cavaliers guard J.R Smith wants to make sure he protects himself from any sharpshooter who might be looking to knock him off. With a $450,000 Gurkha F5 Armored Truck, I would say he does that quite well, as nothing will be penetrating that walls that surround Smith while he’s driving this thing around town.

Avorza-Lamborghini-Aventador

5. Avorza Lamborghini Aventador – $500,000 (Yoenis Cespedes)

There have been a lot of pro athletes who have used monikers and gotten inspiration from several comic book characters. For new Detroit Tigers slugger Yoenis Cespedes, though, he did all those players one better. That’s because the Cuban dropped $500,000 to customize an Avorza Lamborghini Aventador into his very own Bat Mobile, complete with the flame coming out the back. It might not be the safest car out there, but it’s definitely one of the most unique.

Rolls-Royce-Phantom-Drophead

4. Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead – $530,000 (David Beckham)

With millions of dollars from his playing days, David Beckham proved to be an absolute icon among other athletes. So what does a king in the sport of soccer need to drive? One of the highest luxuries in the automobile market, as Becks includes this $530,000 Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead in his fleet of rides.

Mercedes-Benz-SLR-McLaren

3. Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren – $636,090 (El Hadji Diouf)

Although El Hadji Diouf doesn’t play among the best in the world any longer, as he’s 34 years old and is currently in the Malaysian Soccer League, that doesn’t mean he didn’t make great money when he was in the world’s top divisions. Seen with several different cars with a high price tag, Diouf’s most expensive ride was a Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren that was a whopping $636,090. Not bad for a guy who has never been a household name.

Bugatti-Veyron

2. Bugatti Veyron – $2.34 million (Samuel Eto’o)

Cameroonian soccer stud Samuel Eto’o is, as of recent numbers, in the top-3 of the highest-paid athletes on the planet. While he might not have the same acclaim that other players on this list or, more so, his peers in his own sport do, Eto’o knows that his cash can bring him some nice toys. Take, for instance, this $2.34 million Bugatti Veyron, which is a reminder that, yeah, he’s pretty good at soccer, too—which his paychecks have proven.

LaFerrari-Limited-Edition

1. LaFerari Limited Edition – $3.02 million (Cristiano Ronaldo)

He’s one of the most flashy and highest-paid athletes on the planet, so it’s probably not too surprising to see Cristiano Ronaldo own one of the world’s most expensive cars. With a price tag of $3.02 million, CR7 can drive around any town he wants to and will, undoubtedly, turn a lot of heads while he passes by.
