Feeling anxious is like being stuck in a storm cloud—everything seems ominous, overwhelming, and out of control. Worries keep piling up, raining on your parade. That’s why we’ve gathered 15 affirmations to help you avoid fear and worry. Instead of letting anxious thoughts drag you down, these positive mantras will uplift your spirit and remind you of your inner strength. Let’s dive in!

“I no longer believe in my fears.”

Behind every worry and anxious thought is a lie—the belief that the imagined worst-case scenario is bound to become a reality. But these internal narratives are simply fears masquerading as facts, nothing more. You’re under no obligation to take those lies as truth. See through their deceptions by responding, “I no longer believe what my fears tell me.” Truth and freedom await.

“This too shall pass.”

When the weight of worries feels all-consuming, it’s important to remind yourself that this stressful, difficult period is only temporary. Nothing lasts forever— not even this trying moment. Take some calming breaths, feel your feet on the ground, and know deep down that this phase and its challenges will eventually fade and pass.

“My future no longer frightens me.”

Release your fear of the unknown by saying: “My future no longer frightens me, for I am only here now.” Anxiety arises from prematurely trying to control what has not happened yet. Yet when you pause to consider it, all that exists is this present moment. So why let those fictional scenarios rule you? Make a pact to no longer allow your fears about the future rent space in your mind.

“I am enough.”

At the root of so much worry are feelings of inadequacy, insufficiency, and simply not being “enough.” Our fears often stem from that harsh inner critic reinforcing our perceived flaws and deficits. That’s when you must become your own best friend and practice self-compassion. Counteract that negative inner voice by affirming your strength and self-worth because you are enough.

“I’ve overcome challenges before.”

When anxiety threatens to paralyze you, remind yourself of the many times you’ve triumphed over life’s difficulties. Tap into that reserve of resilience by recalling specific examples of how you’ve coped with hardships and emerged stronger. You’ve overcome challenges before through determination— you can and will again.

“I release what I cannot control.”

A significant source of worry is the mistaken notion that we’re somehow supposed to control every outcome in our lives. Yet, so much exists beyond our influence or determination. Rather than exhaust yourself with anxiety, choose peace by letting go of things you cannot actually control and focusing your energy solely on changing the things you can.

 “Gratitude overpowers fear.”

Anxiety and gratitude can’t coexist comfortably — they’re too different. So, when you feel worries bubbling up, make a conscious effort to interrupt that mental loop by listing things you’re genuinely grateful for in this moment. Practicing gratitude daily will eventually overpower any thoughts of fear that arise.

“My worries do not define me.”

When gripped by fear, you tend to mistake it with your identity. This is an inaccurate and limiting belief. You are much more than any passing state, joyful or anxious. Those feelings and thoughts are temporary and lack the substance to be your core or essence. Affirm your strength by reminding yourself that those anxious feelings are transient. They come and go while you remain.

“Handling this challenge will make me stronger.”

It’s easy to believe hardships are merely obstacles you can overcome or succumb to. Yet a more constructive belief is to reframe such challenges as necessary experiences. Just as physical training strengthens muscles, these challenges teach you lessons and make you a better, more rounded person.

“I will not allow anxiety to make my decisions.”

Constant worry, fear, or obsessive thoughts can become oppressive, making us feel powerless in their grip. But you have full ownership over allowing those feelings to run the show and drive your choices and actions. You must remember that you’re in command and can decide how much authority your worries have over your decisions.

“Breathe in strength, breathe out tension.”

Our breath is always available as a meditative tool whenever worries or agitation arise. Use it as your anchor. Consciously take some full breaths — inhaling strength, calm, and resolve and exhaling tension. This way, you release restlessness from your body and receive strength to face your challenges.

“I entertain positive thoughts only.”

Make a conscious commitment to become the gatekeeper of your mind by no longer giving life to negative, worrisome thoughts. Negative thoughts may suggest themselves, but you can turn them away in favor of positive, reassuring perspectives. Visualize any anxious thoughts as dark clouds trying to cover your sun — refuse to let them overshadow your innate radiance. Replace them with uplifting beliefs that serve you.

“The feelings in my body are normal, and I completely accept them.”

Stress and anxiety often manifest as very physical experiences, such as tightness and shallow breathing. Rather than seeing these sensations as abnormal, accept them as natural energy moving through you. All feelings, even uncomfortable ones, arise for a reason and are simply the reality of being human.

“I am capable and worthy of success.”

At the core of so much anxiety lies deep insecurity about our self-worth and abilities. “What if I’m not good enough?” can drive a constant undercurrent of doubt. Interrupt that defeatist inner voice by standing firmly in your capabilities and worthiness. You are naturally capable and deserving of success, wealth, and happiness. Breathe that affirmation into your cells: “I am capable and worthy.”

“I am full of hope, happiness, and positive energy.”

You don’t overcome darkness by battling shadows but by turning on the light. Call in hope, happiness, and positive energy by proclaiming your inherent resonance with those uplifting forces. See yourself walking in bright, expectant, high-powered energy. Affirm “I am full of hope, happiness, and positive energy” as an owner of those mindsets. Where your energy goes, your reality follows.
