Toyota has fully redesigned the legendary 4Runner for 2025, instilling the iconic off-road SUV with fresh styling, more capability, new tech features, and premium refinement while staying true to its rugged roots.
Rugged New Platform
The sixth-generation 4Runner is built on Toyota’s new TNGA-F truck platform, which is also used for the Tacoma, Tundra, Sequoia, and Land Cruiser. The platform features a high-strength steel ladder frame and multi-link rear suspension, providing improved ride comfort and capability. Thanks to these enhancements, the 4Runner can tow up to 6,000 lbs.
Baja-Inspired Evolutionary Design
Drawing inspiration from the Baja desert racing scene, the 2025 4Runner sports a lean, athletic profile with a high beltline and big tires that exude off-road capability. The design tastefully evolves the 4Runner’s iconic styling cues like the rear vertical window and available “wrap over” rear quarter glass, paying homage to early generations.
Powerful Engine Options
In most 4Runner grades, a turbocharged 2.4L four-cylinder engine produces 278 horsepower and 317 torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. As the most powerful 4Runner powertrain ever, the available i-FORCE MAX hybrid engine pairs that turbo engine with an electric motor to produce 326 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque.
Extreme Off-Road Capability
With up to 32-degree approach and 24-degree departure angles, the 2025 4Runner has serious off-road chops. New trail-ready tech includes:
- A multi-terrain select system with modes for mud, sand, dirt, etc.
- Multi-terrain monitor cameras
- Selectable locking rear differential
- Crawl control low-speed off-road cruise control
- Stabilizer bar disconnect for improved wheel articulation
It’s available in 2WD, part-time 4WD, and full-time 4WD configurations.
Expanded Trims
The lineup now spans nine trims, from the base SR5 to the premium new Platinum. Highlights include the overlanding-focused Trailhunter with its lifted suspension, skid plates, roof rack, and auxiliary lighting. The new TRD Pro continues its extreme off-road persona. The nine grades are SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Sport Premium, TRD Off-Road, TRD Off Road Premium, Limited, Platinum, TRD Pro, and Trailhunter. With these trims, there’s something for everyone.

Depending on trim, the 2025 4Runner offers premium cabin amenities like a panoramic roof, digital instrument cluster, the latest Toyota Audio Multimedia system with 8-inch or available 14-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, digital key, wireless device charging, heated/ventilated seats and more.
