Sotheby’s Hong Kong Auctions Patek Philippe Watch for $740,000

Patek Phillipe

Spending $743,590 on a wrist watch is excessive to most. The vast majority of timepieces cost nowhere near that much, even when designed by the most upscale, high-end, famous designers in the world. However, not all designers are Patek Philippe. Sotheby’s Important Watches Sale in Hong Kong on October 8 was more successful than even the auction house imagined, with Patek Philippe watches taking the top seven spots in timepiece sales. The most expensive being the diamond and platinum wristwatch with a perpetual calendar, which sold for more than $740,000.

The upscale Swiss designer’s creations took the top 7 spots at the auction, bringing in millions of dollars in sales. Among the top watches sold at the important auction was a pink gold watch with a minute repeating calendar that features qualities such as a retrograde date and moon phase feature. This watch was auctioned for $697,436. Nearly identical in features, a white gold watch that features almost identical features save for the moon phase option, which is replaced by an original double seal, was auctioned for $543,590. In their own reference, these two watches set world records in their category and class.

Sotheby’s is looking forward now to November when the auction house holds their annual Geneva sale, in which they will also bring back some of the most iconic watches of all time. Patek Philippe is a Swiss watchmaker, which is why the auction house will bring the Patek Philippe Henry Graves Supercomplication back to auction. It’s to commemorate the 175th anniversary of the Swiss watchmaker’s brand. There is no word yet on precisely what else can be expected at the Geneva auction, or what prices one can expect when bidding on the items up for auction. However, the auction house did announce that they were well within their expected sales prices in Hong Kong, which leaves no reason to doubt they will achieve the same in Geneva.
