The Most Expensive Air Fares in the World

flight

Air fare is not usually inexpensive. More often than not it takes a special sale, a one-way route, or a discount airline to offer low prices on airfare. In fact, sometimes it costs more to fly somewhere close to home than it does to fly across the world. The cost of air fare is almost always expensive, but the cost of the current most expensive flights in the world probably makes all other air fare prices seem inexpensive.

Air France from Chile to Lebanon

If you have the need to fly from Santiago to Beirut, prepare yourself to spend $39,525 for this particular flight on Air France. Why the flight costs so much remains a mystery, especially considering neither destination is particularly popular and the average Chilean resident earns a paltry $13,000 annually. Obviously, this is the price for a First Class ticket on the 9,200 mile flight.

ANA Flights New York to Sao Paulo

The flight is only 4,771 miles from New York to Sao Paolo. However, on this ANA flight, it will not only take you 59 hours to make it from New York to Sao Paolo, you will have two layovers along the way. In addition to that, your flight is going to cost an astounding $40,994. Why? Because at some point someone in the air industry thought it made perfect sense for a New York flight to take a slight detour from the almost completely southern flight over to both Tokyo and London before finally heading to Brazil.

Virgin Galactic, Earth to Outer Space

This flight isn’t available just anytime. Richard Branson, owner of the Virgin family, has created a flight that will take those willing to pay a heart-stopping $250,000 from Earth through outer space. It’s a flight to nowhere, essentially. It’s not taking off anytime soon, either. It’s slated to take off at some point in 2015 and many celebrities, including the Pitt-Jolie’s and Katy Perry have already booked their tickets.
