Masa: The Most Expensive Restaurant in the US

Masa NYC

When it comes to fine dining, nothing is more certain than a restaurant with a Michelin-star rating and expensive menus. The Michelin Red Guide rates restaurants annually, with only a few restaurants in the world receiving a star rating from one to three. The loss or addition of a star can make or break a restaurant’s future. Three stars is the best rating, but being an establishment of even one or two is a prestigious honor. Having a Michelin-star rating is a guarantee that patrons will pay a large price for a meal, which is why Masa in New York City is the most expensive restaurant in the country.

About Masa

Its location in the Time Warner Center in New York City makes it a desirable restaurant in general. However, chef Masa Takayama, a Japanese born chef, has managed to create a dining experience unlike any other, making Masa one of the most prestigious restaurants in the City. The restaurant only offers a tasting menu, which makes it even more luxe than most other restaurants in the city. The cost of beverages and gratuity is additional to the price of a tasting experience at this Michelin 3-star rated restaurant.

The Cost of Masa

While it’s entirely possible to have a much more expensive dining experience at many other restaurants based on the number of guests in your party and the type of beverages ordered, Masa has the most expensive menu in the country. For one person, the cost of a tasting is $450. This does not include beverages or gratuity, which make the average check per person an astounding $600. There is an additional cost for those who make a reservation at Masa and cancel. The cancellation fee alone is $200 per person.

Dining at Masa is an experience, not just a meal. The food is, obviously, spectacular, but it’s the ambiance, atmosphere and experience that make dining at Masa so desirable to many. Good luck with your reservation, as this particular establishment is typically booked months in advance.
