Chocolate Covered Vegetables are Part of the New Emerging Chocolate Trends of 2015

Chocolate covered strawberries have long since been known as a romantic food that couples enjoy during their intimate time together, but there’s some new chocolate in the world. Move over chocolate covered strawberries, you’re being replaced. No longer is the phrase “chocolate covered,” followed strictly by the name of a delicious fruit turned decadent dessert. Now it’s all about the chocolate covered vegetable. Yes, you read that correctly; chocolate covered vegetables are all the rage in chocolate trends at the moment.

The trend of dipping veggies in chocolate began in Asia. It’s there that people have fewer “sweet tooth” cravings than they do in the Western world, so chocolate companies had to do something to increase their sales and find a niche in the Asian market. Their idea was to dip veggies in chocolate and call them dessert, and it worked well for those countries. Chocolate makers have marketed chocolate dipped asparagus, edamame and even lemon.

The 20th Salon du Chocolat is slated to open soon in Paris this month. It is the world’s largest chocolate fair, and it’s the place the world was first introduced to the concept of the chocolate covered veggies. However, things that are found here are typically things that are going to become more popular across the world, so it seems that chocolate covered veggies might not be so Asian in the future. According to a survey group, it’s something that might become standard in many grocery stores. Because of its immense popularity in other parts of the world, chocolate lovers would not be surprised to see the decadent health-food-turned-dessert hit shelves in the US before too long.

There are other chocolate trends in the world as well, but none quite as interesting as the concept of dipping veggies in the sweet goodness that is chocolate. It might, however, be a great way for parents to get their kids to eat their veggies with dinner.
