Eating out is something that many people save for a special occasion and they are prepared to splash out a little for the event. However, some people have the deep pockets to spend more than others and have no problem paying more for their dinner than most people spend on their food for an entire month. Here are the top ten most expensive restaurants in the world.

1) Kitcho

This high-end restaurant in Kyoto, Japan, is run by Kunio Tokuoka, an award-winning chef. According to the chef, each dish is a work of art inspired by Japanese culture. You can expect to pay up to $600 per person for a meal here.

2) Restaurant Le Meurice

This Parisian restaurant is run by Alain Ducasse. Not including drinks, tax or tips, the collection dinner here costs $509 per person. By comparison, the tasting menu served at lunch is a mere snip at only $174 each.

3) Masa

Masa is a famous 3 Michelin starred New York restaurant located in the Time Warner Center. Dishes are created by the Japanese chef, Masa Takayama. $450 is the price of a meal here and only tasting menus are offered to diners. If you decide it is a little pricey for you and decide to cancel your reservation you will still be charged $200.

4) Maison Pic

Anne-Sophie Pic is the Chef at this 3 Michelin starred restaurant in Valence, France. Jacques Pic, her father and André Pic, her grandfather, both ran the restaurant before her. Maison Pic specializes in classic dishes with a twist and eating here costs around $445 per person.

5) Aragawa

If you happen to visit Tokyo and you are looking for a classy place to eat, then Aragawa is the best restaurant in the city. The speciality here is Sanda beef from the pure-bred Tajima cattle. Fancying a steak in Tokyo could result in a bill for $370 per person.

6) Ithaa

The experience is about much more than the food in this Maldivian restaurant. It is built 5 meters below the surface and diners can enjoy the unique 180-degree of the beautiful coral gardens. The six course tasting menu, served with champagne, costs $320 per person. The cheaper four course option is priced at $125.

7) Hotel de Ville

Although there are less expensive options available to diners, the tasting menu costs $318 per person. The restaurant is in Crissiers, Switzerland, and is run by married couple, Benoît and Brigitte Violier.

8) Alain Ducasse at The Dorchestor

This is the second time Alain Ducasse makes it onto the list of ten most expensive restaurants in the world, although executive chef Jocelyn Herland actually creates the food. The tasting menu is based on seasonal produce. The seven course option is priced at $289.

9) Michel Bras Toya

East meets west as although the restaurant is located in Toya, Japan, and offers customers stunning views over volcanic Lake Toya, the menu is actually inspired by French cuisine. The director and chef at this restaurant is Cedric Bourassin. A meal at Michel Bras Toya costs anything up to $287. Diners can expect to enjoy French dishes created using local Japanese ingredients.

10) Schloss Schauenstein

To many people, the experience of eating in a Swiss castle makes the price tag of $269 per person seem reasonable. Located in Fürstenau, Switzerland, this restaurant has 3 Michelin stars and serves food that utilizes local ingredients. The head chef at this establishment is Andreas Caminada.
