The Most Expensive Headphones in the World

headphones

Headphones might not seem like a big deal to many people; after all, they do their job by allowing you to listen to music, movies or drown out the sound of others, and that’s about it. However, headphones are actually considered a luxury item and many of them are far more valuable and expensive than many realize. Most consider Beatz by Dr. Dre expensive enough at a couple hundred dollars a pair, but these headphones make Beatz look downright cheap.

Abyss AB-1266, $5495

These headphones are so stellar that they’ve been described as the next best thing to actually being in the same room as a band or singer listening to them perform live. The headphones use a planar magnetic design, which are machined from aluminum and lambskin pads. They look like something out of an historical novel, but they coarse design is irrelevant in comparison to the actual abilities of these uber-expensive headphones.

Ultrasone Edition 5, $4999

While these headphones are great quality and provide noise-cancelling features as well as many other listening benefits, they’re mostly expensive because of the materials used to make them. These headphones contain Ethiopian long-hair sheep leather, they’re titanium coated and they use bog oak that’s undergone a seven layer varnishing process.

Stax SR-009 Earspaker, $4450

Don’t let the bland and boring appearance of these expensive headphones throw you. They’re worth every expensive penny. The diaphragm of music in these headphones is suspended by an electrostatic field. The sound quality is second to none and the ability to hear even the smallest of notes and strains of music is undeniable. They’re able to dig deeper than other headphones, enabling listeners to hear even the faintest of notes, sounds and musical instruments in any piece of music, whether it’s modern day rock and roll or classic jazz.
