Steve McQueen’s Ferrari 275 GTB/4 To Be Auctioned and Should Surpass $3 Million

Steve McQueen

You ever imagine being as awesome Steve McQueen in The Great Escape or The Magnificent Seven? Come on, we all have. Well, now you’re dream has the chance to become a reality – sort of. A gorgeous, red, 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 that McQueen owned at one point is going to be auctioned of this August. It’s expected that bids on this car will break records.

It’s extremely rare to find a 275 GTB/4 nowadays, since only 280 were ever made. Bids went over $2.8 million when one of them was last auctioned off, but that car had not been driven and owned by Steve McQueen. There’s a very real possibility that with McQueen’s named attached to the car that we could see that $2.8 million bid go up a great deal. Any type of vehicle that has been owned, ridden in, or even touched by an iconic movie star or a well-known race car driver is going to go for a much higher pirce than the vehicle would by itself.

The Ferrari will be auctioned off on August 15 at Monterey, California to coincide with the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, and when it’s all said and done, experts are saying that the bidding for the car will most likely surpass $10 million, thereby making it one of the most expensive Ferraris ever to sell at auction.

However, whoever ends up with this specific Ferrari 275 GTB/4 will not simply be paying for its legendary historical value. No, they’ll also be getting a completely restored car. Thanks to its current owner, former racing driver Vern Schuppan, who put around two years of work and effort into restoring and improving the car, McQueen’s Ferrari 275 GTB/4, which is technically speaking 50 years old, should drive like a brand new car.
