BMW Tops Mercedes for U.S. Luxury Sales in June

2013 Geneva Auto Show

BMW topped Mercedes-Benz for U.S. luxury sales in June, thereby increasing its sales overall lead over Mercedes and Lexus for the first six months of 2014. Throughout June, BMW sold 30,201 vehicles and over the first half of this year, the car company has sold 157,832 vehicles in total. Mercedes, on the other hand, sold 26,506 luxury cars in June and has sold 151,624 throughout 2014, meaning that BMW leads them in sales by 5,758 vehicles.

Meanwhile, Lexus had a June increase of 10 percent to 23,518 vehicles sold. Sales more than doubled to 3,932 for the entry-level IS, the company said in a statement. Over 2014, Lexus sales have risen 17 percent to a total of 138,689 vehicles sold.

Additionally, Audi’s U.S. sales increased by 23 percent, giving the company its best June of all-time. The German car company has sold 84,349 luxury cars and SUVs during the first half of 2014. That almost 85,000 vehicles sold is more than Audi’s annual total from five years ago.

GM’s Cadillac reported a 0.1 percent increase to 13,941, with advances of 19 percent to 4,652 for the SRX SUV and 84 percent to 1,907 for the Escalade SUV.

Ultimately, it looks like when it comes to cars and sales, BMW and Audi had the better first half of 2014 than anyone else. BMW is selling more luxury vehicles than the likes of Lexus and Mercedes, their highest competitors, but more than 5,000 cars.

Audi, on the other hand, might not be a leader or a major competitor but the company is most certainly on the rise with the strides it has been making over the past few years. There’s a good chance that if Audi’s sales continue increase that this rate that they could outperform the likes of BMW, Mercedes, and Lexus in the years to come.
