The Highest Grossing Ben Affleck Movies of All-Time

Premiere Of Magnolia Pictures' "To The Wonder" - Arrivals

When Dawn of Justice hits theaters in 2016, you can call him Batman, but until then, he’s still just known as Ben Affleck. With the great anticipation for his starring turn as Batman in the new Man of Steel flick and a new movie, Gone Girl,  based on the Gillian Flynn novel and directed by the infamous David Fincher, heading to theaters this fall, Affleck has been one of the most talked about Hollywood actors around lately. However, with so much talk being about Affleck’s future, we here at Worthly wanted to take a lost at his past and see just how successful some of Ben Affleck’s films have been. From lowest to highest, here are the top worldwide grossing Ben Affleck movies of all-time.

5. Good Will Hunting – $225.9 million

For me, this is the quintessential Matt Damon and Ben Affleck movie. Good Will Hunting nabbed the writing duo (and good friends) an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay back in 1998, and while it was an enormous success with critics, it was also a big success with audiences as well. The film, which reportedly only had a $10 million budget, raked in almost $226 million at the box office worldwide, earning the number five spot on the list of highest grossing Ben Affleck movies.

4. Argo – $232.3 million

From one Oscar winner for Affleck to another, Argo is the movie that nabbed Ben Affleck the Best Picture Oscar in 2013, even though the Oscars completely snubbed him for a Best Director nomination that year. Affleck just seemed incredibly pleased that the film was recognized by the Oscars period (even if it would have been nice to walk away with two golden statues instead of just one), and hey, it also did quite well with audiences. Argo made over $230 million worldwide.

3. Shakespeare in Love – $289.3 million

I’ll be honest, I had almost forgotten that Ben Affleck was in Shakespeare in Love, but he was. This is another Oscar winner for Affleck (Shakespeare in Love somehow stole away Best Picture from Saving Private Ryan at the 71st Academy Awards), but even more impressively, the loosely historically-inspired period piece made nearly $300 million all across the globe.

2. Pearl Harbor – $449.2 million

While Pear Harbor was a complete critical dud as most Michael Bay overly long, explosion-heavy action films are, this was still an incredibly solid commercial success for Affleck. Not only did it make nearly $200 million domestically (which would be more expected, since a more “American” film), but Pear Harbor actually made almost $450 million globally. It’s successes like this for Michael Bay that are the reason why we are now stuck with so many of these terrible Transformers movies.

1. Armageddon – $553.7 million

You knew it had to be Armageddon. The sci-fi disaster film, which starred Affleck alongside Bruce Willis, Billy Bob Thorton, and Liv Tyler, among may others, wasn’t just a box office success in the United States, where it grossed over $200 million, but also across the world. Throughout its run in theaters, Armageddon made $553.7 million worldwide, making it the highest grossing film of Ben Affleck’s career. It’ll be interesting to see when Dawn of Justice is released if it’ll be able to beat out Armageddon for the top spot on this list.
