The Rare Lamborghini Concept S is Expected to Sell for $2.5 Million at Auction

Lamborghini Concept S

Car manufacturers develop concept cars as either a way of showing off, or letting the industry know where they plan to take their company in the future in terms of design. Concept cars are often extremely bold, cutting edge, and very futuristic. However, more often than not, concept vehicles are never produced at large scale levels, if at all. Typically the concept car will either just sit in a companies showroom or in some billionaires garage. It’s extremely difficult to get your hands on a concept car, especially when only one exists. Well as it turns out, you now can. In an upcoming auction in New York, RM Auctions is selling a collection of amazing vehicles and in them is the incredible Lamborghini Concept S.

Lamborghini is already known for designing some pretty crazy looking cars, and their concept vehicles are even more ridiculous. Back in the early 2000’s, Lamborghini was contemplating what their future open-top vehicles would look like. Designer at the time, Luc Donckerwolke, came up with a design that was very favorable. In 2005 Lamborghini then unveiled the Concept S at the Geneva Motor Show. Based of the Gallardo, the Concept S was certainly a show-stopper. But there was one problem: it wasn’t a car. The “vehicle” that Lamborghini showed off at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show was just a full-sized model; it didn’t even have an engine. This bothered many people, as fans quickly became fascinated with the car. So Lamborghini heard them, and would then go on to develop a real, working Concept S a few months later. It is that vehicle that will head to auction in November.

Compared to the Gallardo, you can see some similarities between the two. The front, sides, and rear of the vehicle are very close in terms of design, but then there’s the fact that, you know, it doesn’t have a roof. The Concept S is much more than just a convertible, as it doesn’t even have windshields either, rather depending on the aerodynamics of the car to drive wind over the drivers head. Additionally the vehicle has a “spine” that runs down the center of the car, separating the driver and passenger seats into almost separate compartments. Still, you’d probably want a helmet and driving goggles when operating this beast. You’ll definitely want goggles at least, because there is a 5.0-liter V10 engine under the hood. A normal car feels faster without a roof. A Lamborghini without a roof and a windshield is obviously much more extreme. While there isn’t to much data out there on how this car performs, considering it was based on the Gallardo and has the same engine, it’s very quick to say the least. That V10 offers 493 hp in total so it can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.2 seconds, and achieve speeds of around 190 mph. Again, that feels even faster when there’s no windshield in front of you. Still, the car is totally functional and completely street-legal.

The car is currently on display, and it will eventually head to Manhattan on November 18th. Given the fact that this is the only working version ever made, a concept car, and a Lamborghini, it’s obviously going to be pretty expensive. Officials estimate that this 2006 Lamborghini Concept S will sell from anywhere between $2.5 million to as high as $3 million. We will have to wait and see what happens at the auction, but the car will certainly go for a lot. So, are you a multi-millionaire that wants a one-of-a-kind Lamborghini concept car? Well now’s your chance to act, as the Concept S is a pretty incredible vehicle. I wonder what it feels like going 190 mph in a car without a windshield. If you have $3 million dollars, then you can find out come November.
