Swedish Company Develops Brilliant Payment System Using Vein Scanning

A5

Have you ever lost a credit or debit card? The entire process immediately following losing that vital piece of plastic is brutal. Perhaps you’ve never lost a credit or debit card, but you’re paranoid of identity theft or some unwanted foe getting their hands or eyes on your payment info. Either way, Swedish company Quixter may have found a solution for you.

It sounds as creepy as it is brilliant, but Quixter’s new “vein-scanning” is designed to make transactions quicker and easier by scanning the unique vein patterns in each person’s palm. It’s quite simple, type in the last four digits of your phone number than get a scan – five seconds and you’re done. Sounds good.

Right now, the technology is still very young. It’s the first of its kind in market and currently is being used by about 16,000 users in 15 locations around Sweden’s Lund University Campus. Quixter founder Frederik Leifland said the idea came to him when he was waiting in line at the supermarket. Leifland said he was thinking to himself there must be an easier way to pay – so he went to work.

It’ll be interesting to see if this technology takes flight around the world. It seems secure and saves you the trouble from carrying around debit or credit cards. Interesting technology from Quixter.
