Sony’s Life Space UX Will Dramatically Change Technology And Your Home

Sony's Life Space UX

Sony unveiled many cool products this year at CES, but their biggest announcement was their “Life Space UX” concept. Sony has big plans to change how we view and interact with media, and this ambitious project will be pretty awesome. Essentially Sony is planning to provide technology that can fit seamlessly into your home, and make use of any wall, table, or ceiling. The Life Space UX will be made possible via a lineup of advanced projectors.

Essentially Sony imagines that every room will have a projector and turn any wall into a smartTV. In addition to viewing media, Sony says that users will be able to interact with the projections, as if they were a touch screen. These projectors will be extremely small, and will be able to display images from very close to the wall. This may sound like science fiction, but Sony also unveiled a prototype showing off their dream: the Ultra Short Throw Projector.

Sony’s Ultra Short Throw Projector is probably the coolest projector to come out. Essentially the device will sit right under a wall, and project images above it. The Ultra Short Throw Projector can display 4K images and is powerful enough to make those images 147 inches long. The device uses zoom lenses, three SXRD micro-displays, and laser diodes to make this all happen. Essentially this projector offers users a 4K, 147 inch screen in an extremely small package.

The production version of this device should come out sometime later this year, but don’t get too excited as it will probably cost between $30,000 to $50,000 dollars. Still this device is really awesome, and we can’t see what else Sony has planned for this massive project. Soon enough ever wall in our homes will become interactive displays, and we might have to thank Sony for that. Check out this video to see the projector and some of the other elements of the Life Space UX.
