Brooklyn Law School is a law school located in Brooklyn Heights in New York City. The school first opened up in 1901 and is consistently ranked very well compared to other law schools in the country. The school currently sees around 1,400 students each year and has 64 full-time professors. Students at the school are extremely well prepared for later in life; 94% of students from Brooklyn Law School passed their BAR exam the first time that they took it in 2013. In fact nearly all graduating students of the 2013 class were then employed in some form of job involving law nearly a year later. The school has produced many notable alumni over the last century and some have gone on to become very successful in their respective ventures. Since some of Brooklyn Law School’s alumni are billionaires, we are going to look at the richest people who graduated from the school.
5. Paul Simon
Paul Simon is most notably known for being a part of the music duo, Simon and Garfunkel. He was born in Newark, New Jersey in 1941 and his family eventually moved to New York City in 1945. He was involved with music at a young age and met partner Art Garfunkel when he was only 11 years old. During his music career he was extremely successful and has won 12 grammy awards and has been indicted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He also serves on the board of trustees for the Berklee College of Music.
4. Bary Salzberg
Bary Salzberg was born in Brooklyn in an impoverished neighborhood in 1953. He attended Brooklyn College and then Brooklyn Law School (class of 1977) where he then went on to eventually preside as the CEO for Deloitte Touche Tohmastsu Limeted. Deloitte is the largest professional services network company in the world. They provide auditing services, financial services, consulting, and enterprise risk services to customers all over the world. For the fiscal year of 2013-2014 the company saw $34.2 billion dollars in revenue.
3. George H. Ross
George H. Ross graduated from Brooklyn Law School in 1953 and is Donald Trumps right hand man. Ross currently presides as the Executive Vice President and Senior Counsel for the Trump Organization. The Trump Organization is a limited liability conglomerate that primarily confers itself with holdings and real-estate, in addition to other business ventures.
2. Leon Charney
Leon Charney was ranked as one of the wealthiest Americans in Forbes magazine in 2012. Charney is a real-estate tycoon, businessman, author, media personality, and philanthropist who graduated from Brooklyn Law School in 1964. He amassed most of his wealth through real estate and has also dabbled in assisting presidents, namely President Carter when he helped create a peace treaty between Egypt and Israel in the late 1970’s. His estimated net worth is around $1.3 billion dollars.
1. Larry Silverstein
Larry Silverstein is another alumni of Brooklyn Law School to amass a large fortune from real-estate. He was born in Brooklyn in 1931 and after graduating from Brooklyn Law School, he set up his own real estate company with his father. Currently he is the CEO of Silverstein Properties. He is famously known for construing 7 World Trade Center (a smaller building of the World Trade Center complex) and eventually owning the lease for all of the complex purchasing it from the Port Autority in late 2001. He signed the contract just before the attacks, and has also helped with rebuilding and everything involved in creating the current One World Trade Center tower. He has an estimated net work of $3.5 billion.
