Kirk Herbstreit Net Worth

Kirk Herbstreit is a former football player and commentator for ABC Sports and a co-host on ESPN College Game Day with a net worth of nearly $2 million. His annual salary is a handsome one, coming in at a quarter million dollars for his many roles in sports and television. His face is easily recognizable on television, and he’s one of the most entertaining commentators on television today. Read on to find out a few things you didn’t know about him.

His Annual Salary

Between ABC and ESPN, Herbstreit earns a quarter million dollars per year to sit in front of a few television monitors and talk sports. It’s not a bad job if you can get it, especially considering the fact that football season is only a few months of the year. A quarter million dollars for a few months work is pretty good.

Fans Are Angry

After he said some pretty rough things about the Ohio State Football team, he had to move to Nashville. Why? Because the fans of Ohio State were treating him so poorly when he was out in public that he could no longer leave his home without being bombarded with hatred and anger. His criticism of the team during a live broadcast angered Ohio State fans immensely.

He’s From Ohio

Believe it or not, Herbstreit used to play football for Ohio State – which might be why fans were so angry with his comments. He was finally able to start at quarterback in his senior year in college, and graduated in the early 90s with a business degree. Instead of pursuing football after graduation, however, he went the way of broadcasting.

He Also Played Baseball

Despite his football success, it wasn’t Herbstreit’s only sport. He was also a stellar baseball player growing up. He played for many years, but ultimately decided he cares more for football than he does baseball. It worked out for him in the long run.

His Dad Played Too

Herbstreit’s dad also played football for Ohio State. Both father and son were co-captains of the team when they played, and his father eventually went on to become the assistant coach of the team. They’re only the second father and son duo to have this title.
