Five of the World’s Richest Diamond Owners

Diamonds are a woman’s best friend, but it seems that most of the world’s wealthiest diamond owners are actually men. Of course, these men don’t purchase their impressive diamonds so much for style or to become envy-inducing accessories most of the time. The world’s wealthiest diamond owners usually make these diamond purchases because of the value of the diamond and the fact that they get to own the world’s most impressive diamonds.

Lawrence Graff – $2.1 billion

He began his career with jewels when he was only 15, amassing his fortune by selling his creations independently. At the moment, he’s the owner of the Graff Pink, a 24+ carat flawless pink diamond. He purchased the diamond for $46 million at a Sotheby’s auction back in 2010.

Ann-Marie Graff – $2.1 billion

She’s the wife of jeweler Lawrence Graff, who is one of the most prestigious diamond owners in the world. She has one incredible diamond collection, which includes some of the largest and most expensive diamonds in the world. It seemed she and her husband might be headed for divorce in the recent past, but it seems the couple has decided to stick together after 47 years of marriage.

Dan Gertler – $2.6 billion

His fortune is from a large investment he made into the DRC, the Democratic Republic of Congo’s diamond mining business. He owns some of the world’s most impressive diamonds, as he owns some of the world’s most impressive diamond mines. He’s the youngest on the list of wealthiest diamond owners list.

Beny Steinmetz – $5.8 billion

Born in Israel, he inherited the Steinmetz Diamond Group from his father. This left him with a vast fortune, a business to run and a spot near the top of the list of world’s wealthiest diamond owners. Being primarily in the jewelry business means it’s not a big surprise he’d own one of the world’s most impressive diamonds. He’s credited with creating the 203 carat De Beers Millenium Star, one of the most gorgeous diamonds in the world.

Cheng Yu-tung – $19.6 billion

In 2010, he paid more than $35 million for a round diamond. The Cullinan Heritage diamond weighs approximately 507 carats and it is the world’s most expensive round diamond ever sold. He’s in the jewelry business, but it’s just one facet of his multi-business billion dollar empire.
