Zhang Xin is a Chinese business woman with a net worth of $3.6 billion. She is the CEO of SOHO China, which is China’s largest real estate company. Xin is the 62nd most powerful woman in the world, is only 48 years old and has built up an amazing business portfolio already, but here are five things you didn’t know about the self made billionaire.

5. She earned her education

Zhang Xin began saving up for her future education at the age of 14. She began working in factories at that age for five years straight in order to save up so she could attend school abroad. Eventually, she traveled to London at the age of 19 and saved enough to attend college where she eventually learned economics.

4. She had a cameo in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps

In 2010 Zhang Xin appeared in the 2010 sequel Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps as a Chinese merchant. The role was very minor, but it shows how much fame and success Xin has acquired over the years.

3. She co-founded SOHO China

In 1995 her and her husband, Pan Shiyi, founded the company Hongshi, which eventually turned into SOHO China. The company took off and is now one of the country’s largest, having $9.48 billion in assets.

2. She earned her masters from Cambridge 

After earning her degree in economics from the University of Sussex, Xin went on to earn entry into Cambridge University in 1992. There she worked hard to earn a masters degree in development economics and in 2013 was given an honorary doctor of laws from the University of Sussex.

As mentioned, she is currently the 62nd most powerful woman in the world and stays involved with a ton. She is a member and young global leader of the World Economic Forum as well as a board member of the Council of Foreign Relations. She even earned the blue cloud award in 2010, which is awarded to individuals for their outstanding leadership and inspiration to others.
