It must be the season of diamonds because some of the world’s greatest are being sold for record prices at auctions around the world. Earlier this month we posted an article about a large yellow that fetched close to $20 million dollars. Yellow is nice, but blue is absolutely magical.

A fancy, vivid, blue pear-shaped diamond called ‘The Blue’ will be auctioned off at the annual Christie’s Magnificent Jewels sale to be held next month at the Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues in Geneva. The blue diamond weighs approximately 13.22 carats and is the largest, flawless blue diamond in the world. The blue is an absolute dream of a creation.

The owner, who wishes to remain anonymous, is expected to fetch over $25 million for the diamond. That should be an easy price tag. When the world’s largest orange diamond went on sale last November it fetched $35 million. The 14.82 carat orange was projected to fetch between $17-$20 million.

I’ve seen both diamonds and the orange isn’t even close to the magnificence of the blue. While the blue is slightly smaller, there’s no doubt in my mind that the blue will fetch more than $35 million. It’s one of the nicest gemstones in the world.
