Leonardo DiCaprio Rents Out $600 Million Yacht for the World Cup

86th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

This story almost makes it seem like Leonardo DiCaprio is trying to channel his inner Jordan Belfort from The Wolf of Wall Street.  Apparently, DiCaprio has rented out a mega, $600 million yacht so that he and his friends can kick back, relax, and enjoy the World Cup in style. DiCaprio, who just landed in Rio de Janeiro yesterday, has reportedly rented the 400 meter yacht, named Topaz, from billionaire Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour. According to sources, Leo also plans to take 21 one his closest friends along with him on the yacht.

Local reports suggest that DiCaprio traveled 300 miles on the yacht to San Paulo yesterday so that he and his buddies could watch the inaugural match between Brazil and Croatia. Despite the match being tied at halftime, Brazil, who is the host country for this year’s World Cup and is heavily favored by some to win the whole event, ended up beating Croatia 3-1.

The yacht Topaz is 482 feet in total and was custom built for Sheikh Mansour. It offers three swimming pools, a gym, jacuzzi, a theater room, and even possesses its own helipad. After it was completed back in May 2012, Topaz became the world’s fifth largest private yacht.

Frankly, it doesn’t surprise me that Leonardo DiCaprio would rent an entire yacht just so he could hang out and watch the World Cup with his friends. Not only is DiCaprio well-known for  his more extravagant pursuits, such as dating countless models and purchasing his own island back in 2009 (which he reportedly hopes to someday make into an eco-friendly resort), but he’s also an avid soccer fan who has been spotted at several different matches over the years.

So no, DiCaprio’s renting of Topaz doesn’t shock me in the least – it just makes me wish I was friends with him.
