Keith Richards’ Ferrari Heading to Auction

The Rolling Stones Perform In Shanghai

If you’re a huge Rolling Stones fan here’s your opportunity to drive around town like you’re Keith Richards.  A 1972 Ferrari Dino that was once owned by Rolling Stones lead guitarist Keith Richards is being auctioned off at the Coys Auction in Monaco on May 9th. The vehicle is being set with no reserve (so if no one shows up you could own it for $100!). The Ferrari Dino was conceived as the first ever “affordable” Ferrari. It was named after Enzo Ferrari’s late son, Alfredo “Dino” Ferrari, who was involved in developing the engine before his premature death.

The car became a reality because Dino was all over his dad to create a car that competes with the Porsche 911 and would have a V6 engine used for race car driving. The end result was the Dino 246GT and one of the most popular luxury speed demons on the road. The car was manufactured for four years until the “Dino” model was retired.

Richards’ particular model was shipped to him in 1972. He owned the car for 14 years. During that time he drove 25,000 miles only. Since then the car has been sitting in a Japanese collection for the past 28 years. The car itself has letters and certificates that declare it to be owned by the Rolling Stones star and that the mileage is correct. There has been no indication of what the price would look like, but you can imaging it’s going to be more than $100!
