Clearly we haven’t even scratched the surface yet on the Ashley Madison data hack yet.  Stories are coming out each day and will be coming out in the weeks to come.  One that caught our eye today was that of the executive director of the Louisiana GOP Jason Doré who spent $176 on the adultery website and claims it was for “opposition research.”

Jason Doré acknowledged that his name is on the list released by hackers this week, according to The Times-Picayune. But he said he used the account strictly for “opposition research.”

“As the state’s leading opposition research firm, our law office routinely searches public records, online databases and websites of all types to provide clients with comprehensive reports,” he told the New Orleans newspaper. He didn’t say who the account was for, though he did say that “it ended up being a waste of money and time.”

In total hackers have release over 30 gigs of data including names, numbers, and credit card information of registered users to the site.  Yesterday, the Pentagon announced it was looking into the more than 13,000 email addresses with military domains that appeared on the website.

Over 15,000 emails have government suffixes.  However, it’s not known how many of these accounts are real.  The Associated Press reported Thursday that hundreds of government employees with jobs at the White House, Congress and more than two dozen agencies used Internet connections in the federal offices to access the site.

One Justice Department investigator told the AP he was “doing some things I shouldn’t have been doing.”  We kind of wish that’s what Jason Doré said.
