According to reports, Donald Trump has purchased Turnberry from the Dubai-based group Leisurecorp for an undisclosed sum of money. To give you an idea of what Trump may have paid, Leisurecorp purchased the golf resort for £52 million. The five-star hotel, luxury self catering accommodation and spa has not been performing up to its ability with the economic downturn around the globe. While the golf resort hasn’t been officially up for sale, Leisurecorp has been said to have been exploring possibilities to unload Turnberry. Cue Mr. Trump.
Turnberry has hosted one of professional golf’s major championship, The Open, four times. It’s the only course in the open circuit that is privately owned. You better believe that Trump is going to have that place ready to roll for the next time it hosts The Open, which is expected in the next decade. According to Trump, the course will not be altered in any way. However, he may make some minor adjustments to the five star resort.
We’re very curious to see what those “minor” adjustments might be. Perhaps there will be a board room where he can tell losing golfers “you’re fired!”
