Americans Are Cited as Being the Unhappiest Travelers on Earth

People are always traveling whenever they can; whenever it’s domestically checking out a new part of their home country or flying somewhere new and abroad to see the world. A lot of the time, traveling includes taking a flight to somewhere, and in a recent survey conducted by IT workers at SITA, they discovered that Americans were actually the unhappiest airplane travelers throughout the whole world. In fact, 28% of people were always unsatisfied with their flights and had plenty of problems with the overall experience.

A lot of things can go wrong during a flight; uncomfortable seating, rude passengers, children… the list goes on and on. Yet, there are also tons of ways to block everything out and get through the flight. The survey found that Middle Eastern flight passengers were the happiest, with a minor 16% of people being unhappy with their flying experience. Europeans were a close second place with only 18% being dissatisfied, but what’s the difference between these people and Americans?

According to the SITA results, Americans biggest problem was with baggage retrieval and believe it is organized horribly. After getting off of a long flight, most people want to quickly grab their things and head off to their hotel for some peace and quiet, but most of the time it takes forever just for the luggage to arrive at the specified retrieval point and even longer to find the correct one(s). The other biggest concern was with the flight experience overall; people complained about small cabin and seat spaces which leads to being squished into an aisle next to others with little leg or arm room.

Others found the entire security process to be a pain and would like to see improvements to make flight transfers and connections much easier, with quicker ways to get their things and drop them at the correct point for their next flight without wasting any time. Although everyone is going to have their specific problem with flying, these were the major concerns for those constantly traveling. Flying is quite the long process and it’s hard to be completely satisfied with no problems throughout it all. Hopefully the airlines can find and review this information and cater to what the customers want in the future.
